Well I have a 96 SE and Well it is possible, but it doesnt look nice. Folding seats are made different (made to fold down) If you have just one big seat in the back, well then it will just look weird when you take it down. What you do is on the back of your back seat, through your trunk, there are 3 metal hook/clips. What you wanna do is basically bend those a lil straight so that your back seat will come lose. Now with this lose, you seat is fold down. But as you see there is alot of resistance with your seat, like it doesnt want to stay down at all. This is a reason why alot of the time folding down seats was an option. Just think before you bend those clips. I've done it and now mine are very weird to bend back.
Right now my seat is like not connected to the frame. But I'm going to devise a plan where I can hook the back seat up when I want it to connect. If you've taken your back panel out before, you'll know the whole im talkin about. This can be an option for you, if you want "fold down" seats... What im doing is connecting something to tie or connect the seat to the frame through the whole in the backframe where the speakers are in. My sub box is to big for the clearance of the speakers hanging down, so I took my back panel off and just have the speakers sittin on the top of the box. Through that frame there is a whole in the middle so you can see down into the trunk. That is where I'm going to put something down in there and connect it to the seat. Then of course I'll cover it or such with carpet. I cant put my back panel back in, cuz when I went to cut it the lock came off the jigsaw and just started hacking away.
O well, I hope this helped you and gave you ideas.

don't do it!! this will give a theif an easy access to your stereo. in our 93 ga the theif poped the trunk lock, pushed the seat down and then took the stereo we had. est. for the trunk was 800, stereo was 120. we lucked out and got a trunk from or local junk yard that had a wing installed already, and painted it for us. just over 250. the only good thing was that we wanted the wing anyways.

I wouldn't be folding the non-folding rear seats. They are bolted to the car on the bottom and the "resistance" you referred to would be those metal tabs bending. Not a good idea. The metal tabs in the trunk are designed so when the seat is unbolted, it can be lifted up and out. Th get to the 2 bolts on the seat back, you have to first remove the seat bottom.

Cmunky16 has the right idea I did this on my 97gase.Take out the two bolts that are under the front ledge of the back seat near the hump in the middle feel a bit and ya can find em.Then take out the bolts that hold in the seat belts. You should be able to detach the top half and resecure the bottom. There are three hooks on the back of the top you can cut off or keep.I kept mine so it would hang if needed. You can fold down the top half or take it out as needed :)

Would it be possible to take the rear seat from a GA which had folding seats and swap em?

yes,you should be able to take out the whole back part of the backseat(its just one whole big pad) and put in the back part that has the fold down, keep in mind its not the whole seat that folds down, its only like a section......
Now if you don't want to buy or get a whole new one just create some kind of hinge that will make the back part fold down, but keep in mind the easier you make it to access your trunk the easier it is for someone to steal crap from ya,just keep in mind,im glad I don't have a fold down rear seat.

i took the backseat out of my 95 completely and built a new back piece outta MDF and covered it with the fabric that was on the backseat originally and installed it with hinges so that it folds down....it turned out really good

Yes, it's easy. One of the first mods I did... and best stereo improvement for $50. As mentioned, you only need the back half... the bottom (butt) half is the same for both types of seat.

Do u think the seats out of a '94 or '95 ga will fit in a different gen '96? i really want folding seats and they mostly have the older years at the junk yard.
