I debadged my Grand Am today so nobody can saw "haha you drive a GA"
1) the goods, thats Oops! for the major job of detaching the tar-ish sticky stuff used to attach the badges, GS-27 to remove all the crap from the top layer of the paint, and all the badges
http://www.jadway.com/pics/CAR/IMG_0460.jpg
2) side view where one set of badges were
http://www.jadway.com/pics/CAR/IMG_0460b.jpg
3) the trunk, badges used to be unde the lock
http://www.jadway.com/pics/CAR/IMG_0460a.jpg
4) the other side
http://www.jadway.com/pics/CAR/IMG_0461a.jpg
Steps:
1) take a razor and wedge it under the badge, slicing along slowly and pulling the badge away from the care
2) spray with Oops! and get a rag and start tearing away at it
3) use fingers to pull up large chunks, rolling them along like when you try to get gum to stick back to itself into a big ball
4) more Oops to degrease the side
5) when Oops does no more, there will be outlines where the badges were
6) GS-27 + clean rag to buff out the layer of grime that won't come off
7) DONE
looks so much cleaner now, more worth driving. especially without the crappy SE tags :)

I'm getting some vinyl badges and stuff anyways, I didn't like the look of the factory stuff
and the tape wouldn't come off with heat, it left a horrible sticky film. and the film wouldn't come off 100% with just degreaser so I buffed it out.

I wish I had a different year. I would SOOOOO debadge my car, and then get a "GRAND AM SE/X" vinyl, just to be stupid.

If you debagded your car so know one will say "Haha you drive a Grand Am", those same people will say "Haha you drive a Grand Am" anyways because they know what a Grand Am is. Its the people who know nothing about cars that wouldnt know what kind of car you drive without the badges, and those people probably wouldnt say "Haha you drive a Grand Am" anyways.

You know, it's funny, my mom said something along those same lines. She said "You just don't want people to know that you drive a Grand Am".
While that may be true in some cases, I don't feel that way. Hell, I like my car and I'm certainly not ashamed of what I drive, I just like the way a clean car looks free of badges. Personal preference I guess.
Honestly, I'd do the same thing if I drove a BMW or a Mercedes.
Well, that's just my 2 cents. I'm gonna go post pictures of my ride in the Member's Gallery now for anyone who wants to take a look. Just waxed it today and for a 7 year old car it's looking sharp!!!

I partially debadged mine! I hate the sad little pieces of plastic that catches wax! Then the boss (she who must be obeyed) came out and that was the end of that! Next time she is outta the house the door handles are gone!!!!

if you debadge your car cuz you don't like ppl saying "HaHa you drive a Grand Am" to me that sounds like your ashamed of driving it,only reason I debadged mine was because I wanted the car to be smooth,I could careless what people think about my car, most of the time the ppl that say that stuff drive slow cars anyways, and in that case i just get next to them, smile, nail the gas and off I go and say seeeeeeeee ya!!!! And no one should be ashamed of driving a Grand Am,prolly one of the most nicest cars to be out on the market,IMO.They might not be fast as in corvette or the "muscle car" fast bracket but for the money you pay for it and the cleaniness of it,i think its a very nice car to have and mod, maybe thats only because Ive had very few mechanical problems with it and it has 76K miles on it and the only thing we had to replace because of something going bad was the water pump, the ONLY thing to have gone wrong, everything else was because I had lowered it and wanted everything to function and work properly, sorry for the ramble on there:P

Most of the time, the people saying that will be driving like, a Civic anyway. So then you can just go "hahaha, you drive a Civic".
I got that last night....I was sitting in our parking lot we chill in, when this kid in an absolute peice of junk of an Integra rolls by and mocks the GA. So I went and beat him in a race.

i debadged mine and i did it for 2 reason...1) make it look cleaner, 2) Pontiac didint pay me for the advertising, and they sure as hell didnt make it what it is today, so they dont get the free advertising.
as a result, evn when cops stop me they have no clue what i drive. the dealership has troube identifying whether its a grand am, grand prix, or something completely else.
some guy came to my work and had a grand am. he didnt realize it was a grand am either (and he has modded his too).

People only mock the car because they don't know what it is, they see "Grandma" and laugh
now they cant :D
