Ive been wanting to take my 97 2.4 to the track(1/4 mile) and do this summer nights thing and do a couple runs and see my times and my speed.Well when i brought it up to my parents they didn't give me the reaction i was looking for,but i see their point.Im wondering if i were to do two runs(not one after the other, prolly 30 min to an hour wait between) would the engine be fine? Not running any nitrous or anything just straight up 2.4L Twin Cam muscle.Should my dad not worry bout anything happening to it like just all of a sudden break down?

Dude 30 runs in a half hour would not hurt anything. Before I started racing my dad had the same idea about racing. So I took him to the drag strip to show him what it was all about. Well now he can't really do anything about it cause its my car and all. On a stock engine your not going to hurt anything. Plus you'll get addicted after the first run :P You probably have more of a chance breaking down just driving around town.

I agree. You have nothing to worry about. I remember when my parents got like that also. I get that way as well at times. You have to figure though, when you drive onto the highway you have to excelerate(sp) almost the same way. You should have nothing to worry about.

well my dad used to drag when he was younger and raced his 67 camero SS/RS.And he doesn't like messing with new engines because of the computer and the sensors that the older cars didn't have.Plus the GA that i drive isn't mine yet:( But i know that it could hold up.Thnx for the help:)

I could see if it wasn't your car yet that he'd be concerned about. The computers and sensor help your car. Let's take a car like a Supra TT or something of that nature. They can use a smaller engine but get so much more power out of it because of computers. They are more efficient due to this and create just as much power as older muscle cars. If something goes wrong you can take it in and you should be able to find the problem if a sensor picks it up real fast. So you see they help the car, not impede it. You don't have to baby it. GIVE IT HELL!:D

Supras can take so much power because they are over-engineered. But thats beside the point. Why don't you just go without his permission. I've done that a few times. You just ned to find a track that really doesn't care about age :)

You won't hurt anything. I drive the piss out of mine, have ever since it was new, have 110k miles on it now, and have NEVER had anything fail due to driving hard. Even my clutch lasted until 90k miles. Go have some fun! :D
