I want to fix up my rims that i got for mad cheap at a junk yard. they are in good condition. i stripped off the clear coat and they just need to be sanded. but my b/f suggested that i can get powder coated chrome on them...im not exactly how much it is, what the people do and if they can scuff out all the marks and stuff. anyone have ANY idea what the process is and how much?

I'd sand them down and get the brushed, get that brushed aluminum look, on a red car, oowee, that or have them powdered white, it shouldn't be more than 150 I don't think, yuo can get kits for that price so I wouldn't think it'd be to expensive

They do make hi-temp wheel paint, don't know how good it is but I would assume it would chip like regular paint, more then would on rims that were just plain silver/aluminum

Look to pay about $350 for a set of rims to get powder coated. They have to lime blast the rim, powder coat it, then apply a sealer on that.

Chrome is a dipped method, they don't powder coat it on. They make a powder called 'almost chrome' that looks mor elike polished aluminum more than chrome. To have it done it has to be completely stripped of any surface coatings by sandblasting like 95-GT said. And it can cost between $300-$400. Make sure someone with a professional unit does it as well. A friend of mine has a bead blasting unit and a powder coater. His powder coating unit doesn't do larger parts like automotive wheels that well because his unit should have more current for the size of the object.
If your looking for the low budget way out just goto http://www.eastwoodcompany.com and check out their wheel paints.

i would neverget them painted white only because my car is a metallic color maroon and it would not look right. i like the chrome or silverish colors better.
