Can somebody tell me if the SC/T option hood for the Grand Am GT is a "functional" ram air hood. I like the looks of them but I don't want to spend the money for one if it's just "ornamental".

No, they are not unfortunately.
If you've got the cash get the AED hood, it's functional.

the AED hood CAN BE MADE FUNCTIONAL, but it requires modification. at least they go that far, all others are just consmetic.

Actually all the hoods can be made functional- it's just a matter of cutting out some of the underside of the hood.
All in all, NONE of the hoods come ready (as in the hole directing air to the airbox being cut before you recieve it) but all have been modified by diff. members in the community to become funcitonal...

The SC/T hood from PFYC.com is functional.

That hole sits right over the airbox. all you have to do is cut open the lid.

cut open the lid and put in some sort of seal so none of the air gets out.

The GM SC/T hood does have the holes cut in the hood, but there is nothing directing the air to the airbox. If you buy it installed from a dealer it has the holes blocked by a block off kit that is just a piece of metal that can be removed. But if you get it afterwards it comes primed with the block off kit seperately if you want to use it.
This works out well for me because I have an open element filter anyways so the extra air coming into the engine bay helps cool the engine and gets extra cool air to the intake.

The SD hood is also functional. It requires a slight mod to the top of your airbox if running the stock "ram air" setup.

Observing a caterpillar become a butterfly is time better spent than making one of those hoods functional.
No HP gains will be made for the obvious reason that grand ams DO NOT come with a real Ram Air system.

i've done the modifiying of the airbox. The only advantage I saw of doing this was maybe a little more cold air. Performance wise I didn't notice anything. Maybe 1-2 hp, but you can't really notice that by the seat of your pants.

:agree: go ahead and get a cold air iintake.
I love mine.
I could make my hood functional, but the gains aren't worth the time. This hood is just for looks.
