so i got home from work and i was frustrated with my car, so i decided to derib it, everything went smoothly and i was excited to see my car without the ribbing.....but... now let me explain. i got into an accident last year and the front left molding got thrown off, and when i got my car back it was fixed.. but it was coming off, so the auto body shop that my mom gets business for fixed it again, and it stayed, now when i pulled this piece off, to my surprise they used the same black glue that they use for windshield molding underneath the rib! and not only did i find that out but when i pulled the corner of the rib off, a BIG piece of the paint came off with it. it was devistating to see that they really were that dumb to use that on the paint of a car :( my moms callin them up tomorrow and asking them to remove the rest of the glue and paint the spot that got ripped off.

honestly...that 3M stuff doesnt work that well. it turns out that the ribs are not reusable....you need to use new (unwarped) panels. im experienceing this now, and i might use a more "permanent" fixing product for mine.

I say after they fix it forget putting the ribbing back on or buying new moldings, wouldn't like all that to happen again, and IMO i don't mind the body line, unless its a GT,GT's have to keep the moldings on,body line doesn't match the rest of the car very well.

"when i pulled the corner of the rib off, a BIG piece of the paint came off with it." - That would make the normal person say hey, that's not good and stop pulling the paint off til you have the right tools.

i told you it came off too fast to stop, and i also told you to stop reading my damn posts, i dont want your input, you dont own a grand am. they put the damn glue on, it isnt my fault, and the other 3 panels came off just fine.

Hey wang, I don't know if you noticed or not but most of that b;ack stuff still on her car is the GLUE, not missing paint. The only missing paint there is is up in front. It's big enough to be noticeable but not big enough to notice the paint coming off when peeling.

If you've never reribbed a GA before, why give your input?

If you thought something was going wrong you should have stopped. That's all Im saying.I don't have to have a grand am to know what's going on. It's just common sense. It's my opinion. Most of it is glue ey. Well hey, still looks like crap doesn't it. and it's not being reribbed it's being deribbed.

If you don't know me, why be rude? Nose out, Mike.

eh, it was doing fine til the paint came off. they are NOT supposed to use that trash on car paint, obviously. and anyway my moms already talked to her friends at the body shop so im getting it fixed for free, i dont have to pay one red cent. and no, i didnt know anything was going wrong because the OTHER THREE came off just fine, and look damn good, like it never had paneling, so therefore, like ive said before, dont give your input to me, you dont know how to derib a car, nor is there any "tools" involved other than a bottle of goo gone and something thin enough to pry the tape away from the body of the car to peel back the panels.

Nose out? I have just as much right to give my opinion as you do. Sh!t happens. No need to be an ignorant prick about it like your coming across as. Your also saying I'm being rude!? Maybe you should read your first post...

I got T-Bonned 2 years ago and the dealership fixed my car. When we started puttin on my kit ( a month ago ) we had to take the ribs off. Guess what we found... They put a new door but they painted it and put the ribbing back on wet paint, it all blistered underneth. Plus they left the damage on the quater pannel under the ribbing and to top it all off my door is a different color red ( we never noticed it with the ribbing on there ) needless to say now my whole car is getting paint.
