View Full Version : Shaving trunk lock?

Hey,

I was thinking about shaving the lock off the trunk and removing the spoiler and filling the holes to give the ass a really smooth look.

Anyone done this before, or have any idea how much something like this would cost?

If any of the readers of this thread are in Edmonton and would like to recommend a good body shop for me to go to, I would appreciate that too!

Thanks!

Price all depends on where you get it done. You can go somewhere adn they can out tape over the back of the holes and slap bondo in it and spray it and charge you a few hunderd. Or you can go someplace that will wled in smaller filler panels, grind down the weld so smooth you won't even need body filler and prep, paint and wetsand the whole deck lid and charge you a bunch more.

I think smoothing the back would look cool.

But shop around a few body shops and ask for references to simular work done.

I've done a few photochop's with this and it does look really smooth on the 96-98 GA's....Deffly have the trunk line taken out as well(the line that runs along trunk, just barely under the lock).Id assume the price may be in 300 range, not sure on how much area they'd have to use for it,meaning the area theyd sand back to the bare metal,it might be possibly all trunk. But yea I agree with John, ask around and ask for references of work done on similar cars.

Don't let anyone put only plastic filler over those holes or you'll end up w/ a mess w/in a year. either heave it welded shut & filled/ or use a 2 part epoxy as I did & apply it to both the top & the underside, effectively sealing the hole totally shut.
