I have a 1992 Grand am and it just blew a head gasket...probably because it has 280,000 miles on it. I want to make it over 300,000 so i'm interested on changing the head gasket myself. Can someone give me some pointers on how hard, or just how to do this, or if its worth getting it replaced.

I'm in the same boat, 3.3 just went out at 190,000 miles. The best thing for you to do is to replace the entire assembly with a used engine that has a warranty. I have seen 50,000 mile engines complete with low mileage injectors and all sensors/accessories for less than $300. Search at http://www.car-part.com. I will be replacing mine at the end of the summer, until then I just purchased a 96 Sunfire that was wrecked but repaired with only 10,000 miles for $1200 out of Detroit.

the head gaskets on these engins could not be easer . plan for a weekend, and get the hole gasket kit, not just the one for head gaskets. remeber to buy new head bolts as well. if you need and more info .. i.m me
