I want to wire a cold cathode to my trunk light so that it turns on only when the trunk is opened (much like the trunk light does)

Is the light bulb that is in there a 12v bulb? So can I just pull it out and splice in wires for my cold cathode and make it only turn on when the trunk is open?

AFAIK all lights in our cars are 12v so it should be fine. I want to do it myself but my stupid trunklight never goes out when I close the lid.

^yea, the sensor is prolly acting up,mine did that but cut the wire.I'm trying to figure out how to hook it up so the wiring isn't or won't get pinched, thats what was causing my light to stay on.Wiring the cathode would just be hooking it up in where the existing bulb is,might have to rig it if doesn't go right in there.
