Up until about the last year my car was "just a car" and no special attention was paid to it. Well, I do so now, and I am getting up there in miles. I want to make it last as long as I can. I was wondering if there were any things that I could take apart/clean or that might need replaced. The oil has been changed religiously, but that's about the only maintenance this car has seen, besides car washes and new tires when necesary. I am still trying to learn on engines, so a how-to would be great! I just recently pruchased the Haynes manual too, so that should help.

While Quads have lots of internal parts, theres not much going on outside. There is no emmisions stuff to clean up, no egr, no pcv, no spark plug wires to change.

Keep the fluids fresh and the filters changed, if you have not done it yet changing the termostat would be a good idea. Keep a Eye on the water pump.

Heater core is due to go soon so stick away some cash for that.

With any luck you should still be good to go.

So basically make sure I am keeping an eye on the old temp guage. Thanks for the input.

I got to thinking, you might also want to pull out the IACV and clean it up.

Carbon like to build up on them, causing air/fuel mixture problems.
watch for the O-ring when you pull ther IACV. It will have to go back in, or the car will have a major vac-leak.

Are water pumps a common failure on quad 2.3 engines? Mine has about 150k on it and im having coolant problems, it seems like theres restricted flow. If i have to get a new water pump how much is it guna cost, and can I do it in my own garage?

It is doable at home, you have to drop the exhaust manifold, then it's pretty straight forward.

If you have any skills you should be able to handle it.
Soak the bolts on the manifold good over night before you try to remove it. ( friendly advice )
