Brakes, Wheels Squeak

:???: Looking at getting my 99 Grand Ams brake pads replaced. I have roughly 45K miles driving in heavy Houston traffic. Recently i've noticed that while driving there is a high pitched metal to metal squealing sound that consistenly goes away when the brake pedal is pressed. Once the brake pedal is released, it comes right back. Could this be worn brake pads or something else. Do the brake pads need to be replaced? Any help is much appreciated.

That's sounds like the wear indicator telling you your brakes are worn out . get them checked as soon as possibly .. :)
