there's a bit of controversy there, but we'll keep with the official decision. i was having a hard time finding a hotel i was suposed to meet some people at. sonner or later i passed the hotel and had to turn around. i was in the left lane of a two lane street, the altima was in the right, i put my directional on and checked my mirror, not seeig anything i moved into the right lane, next thing i know my passenger side window shattered and my car spun a 180 and it was over, the cop sited me with "improper turn" as i was moving into the right line so i could turn off onto a side road. perhaps the car was in a blind spot of mine and i just missed it, but what i also missed was the shine of his headlights on the side of me.
as for the controversy, people who've seen the car in person says it looks like the kid in the altima was going pretty fast to do that kind of damage. for the record i was doing the speedlimit.

I really know how you feel. My 99 Am was not even 6 months old when a school van smacked it in the tush. Hard.
But I went ahead and had the whole back replaced, courtesy my insurance co. Stuck it out in court, won back my deductible, tho it took a long time.
2 ironies:
1. the real cause of the accident: another brand new 99 grand am tried to cut me off (and I got him -- he ended up in court too)
2. here it is, 5 years later, and another idiot in a van smacks the ass again -- guess everybody wants to have a close look. :roll2:
(and yes, it got replaced again, perfectly, courtesy my insurance company -- and now the legalities game again.......*sigh*)

sorry to hear it man. for it to cause so much damage to your car it didn't hurt his very much. *hit happens. glad to hear you're ok and you're gonna let it go fairly easy. i've got a few wrecks under my belt and that's the best thing to do. nothing you can do now, it's all said and done with. just go about your life as normal as you can.
you gonna fix that car or get a new one?

i'm kinda hoping it's appraised as a total loss, i want to try to get some day time pics up so you can really see the effects in better detail. some of inside the car too, thank god there wasn't a passenger he/she would have had a broken hip. you can notice in some pics how the seat is twisted. and that was a bit of a tangent, anyway, i'm hoping it's totalled because i just don't think or see it driving straight again, atleast for what the car's worth.

i learned my lesson too, when 18 year old kids come speeding down the right lane, don't rely on mirrors alone. not saying it wasn't my fault considering the circumstances, but i had no lesson to learn here, except instead of 100% caution give 115% you can't control the other people on the road..

Ouch. I hate the law. He should be the one paying for it all.
At least you didn't back into a Mustang. I did that to my friend's back in February. $1000 in damage to his front right fender (replaced and painted). My damage: cracked reflector on the driver side rear bumber and some scuffs that will buff out. Man, his Stang was built "Ford Tough". :roll2:
