So, what's the rumors on proper ways to break in this engine?

New cars have a very simple break in rule. You drive it 500 miles before you begin the abuse. Don't floor it untill after 500 miles. That has become a standard. You don't have to go the same path as the older cars and Carb cars.

I don't know about the exclerate, but when I had mine rebuilt he said no cruse control. For the rings to seat better you should vary the speed of the car if you get on a free way. Also keep the speed down, don't rev it when it first starts.

One of the hardest things you can do to a motor is rev it up when it first starts. The oil hasn't had a change to get through out the motor yet.

You know, the 3400 V6, when it's made at the factory it was already broken in for a couple of hundred miles before installing in the car. So you don't have to wait for very long before you push it hard.

When I got my 03 last May-june, I called the dealer to have my oil changed at 500 miles.. The tech told me that they are broke-in at the factory. I still baby it till 2000miles before opening it up. At 7k I still only open it up once in awhile.

( by loading / unloading the rings on the cylinder wall ) But varying the engine speed is perhaps the most inportant , don't drive at a constant speed for long periods of time till you get some miles on the engine .

25,000 miles on my car in 9 months, and I had a 1 mile commute to work. Now that's driving dedication. The thing about reving is load. If the engine is loaded down it's hard on the engine, if there is no load everythings gravy. On manual trans (which non of us have) the best way to break in an engine is to contantly run it in a gear higher than you normally would.
