This is the true story about a CAI and puddle......I was drivin home from work the other day, and it was rainin' like hell. Sure enough hit a puddle...nothing at first ... came to a stop sign and accelerated and a little shudder. kept on about another mile til I came to a stop light...so I gave her about half throttle....well not good..shuddering and the car would not go above aboug 20mph. I pulled over to a gas station and called Jeremy (pre_30546643????) he got there about an hour later we looked and prodded under the hood in the pouring rain and finally we took her out to see how she was....slow acceleration and it wouldn't shudder TOO bad. got it home and it was not right for about a week...(really still isn't the way she use to be.) replaced some ignition coils (don't see how they were effected) and the wires and spark plugs. Now the car is having trouble starting...wiggle the positive wire that goes to the starter and it will start most of the time. anyway...the car just isn't right anymore. I LOVE my CAI but this has given me a good scare. Idon't now what to do with the car anymore...kinda scared to keep it...thinking about getting rid of it while its still worth something incase some more goes wrong from this. anyway moral of the story you don't have to hit a big puddle to mess up your car with a CAI. well thats my warning and just as a side conversation would you get rid of the car?

ok, well I have noticed, I have to clean my air intake every 8 to 10 months. Thats cause.. well I live in a very crappy part of canada where weather is crap. Though even wtih all that, I have not noticed any problems. Pretty much, the only problems ive noticed is how Ill have to change my CAI a bit. It just doesnt seem to hold well in some places and because fo that, its tricks on and off my SES light. Ill have to do some adjusting.

By pass is def on my mine...or just making it a WAI, I can live with 1-2 less hp...I'm pretty sure that the reason for my problems is that damn puddle...ever since that it just hasn't been the same. but I could go out and nail a puddle twice as deep and nothing. I just think it was something to keep in the back of your mind that strange things can happen. It sucks but its a risk we all take ;)

For those 'By pass' valves to work the end of the intake has to be submerged or completely blocked for the vacume to open the by-pass flaps. Most of the time, driving though a puddle won't choke up a 3" tube enough to completely block it. In other words, its a waste of $$.

uhh you realise that water removes the oil off the air intake. Removing the oil removes the filtering qualities of the intake. That means your gettin dirt in your intake, WHICH IS VERY BAD! Just buy a filter recharge kit and re-oil it up.
