My brother just came up from Florida. He has a Chevy S-10. Trader. Any way, the truck runs fine unless you have to sit still. Once he sits still he has to keep his foot on the break and the accelerator at the same time or the truck stalls. He has put almost $1k into repairs already with no luck.

I asked him if he replaced the fuel pump or even checked if it reads 12 and he said no. Does anyone think it may be the fuel pump or have any other suggestions to get this piece of junk running right?

I know my Grand Am pretty well, but I know absolutely nothing about Chevy's and really don't want to but he needs a vehicle to get back and forth to work so it needs to run better than it is now.

My first gues is air filter is dirty, making him have to push the gas to keep it running at a idle.

A dirty fuel filter could aslo cause it, but I still think it's the air filter.

Pull it out, it should be white and you should be able to see through it looking at a light.

Whether its a late model or earlier model, those symptoms are related to air/fuel systems. Probable causes are: Vacuum leak, stuck or inoperative IAC, bad MAP sensor or a defunct O2 sensor. A dirty/ or restricted air filter would cause a higher than normal MAF voltage. (if it were equipped with one) A restricted fuel filter would give you a loss of power or hesitation, rough running condition. Fuel pump would pretty much be the same as a restricted filter.
