I am sorry that I didnt listen to the people that said dont go to aamco.

As most of you know my tranny went out about 2 months ago. I got a complete rebuild. Now two months later I was having a little problems with it and I took it in. The guy proceeded to tell me whatever it was, that it was fixed. And that the problem was because of the cold air intake. I know for a fact that the intake has nothing to do with the tranny.

So I am coming home from fishing a couple hours after I picked the car up and all the sudden I have no throttle response. It is like im in neutral. I try 1st 2nd 3rd and D and nothing. So I cant go forward. I try reverse and it to is gone. So I waited half hour for a tow truck and its 50 dollars to get it back to the tranny place. I am looking for a reimbursement on that tow and I am looking to get this totally fixed once and for all.

Don't you love it when they pick on tuners because they're lazy? That like when I took my Accent into the dealership when the transmission went out...he tried to blame it on my aftermarket rims. 15" rims killed the transmission...yeh...

Like I always say, if you want something done right you have to do it yourself.

I'm afraid you are confusing aamco with amaco (now BP).

I found a solution to that - two days after picking up my Sunfire from having the transmission rebuilt at an AAMCO place, a tree fell on it and totalled it! *whew* saved me from having to fight with them...

Unfortunatly the majority of people don't know how to rebuild a transmission. And an automatic transmission at that.

UPDATE!

My dad called them this morning and he is still dwelling on the CAI. But he did say that he would take care of it. My uncle, the person who referred me to them, said he would talk to him also. After I finally get this work done if there is even a little slip or anything I am probably going to get a hold of the Better Business people and find a way to get this actually fixed. Even if it comes down to Aamco paying for a brand new factory transmission.

Never had the problem with AAmco up here, actually I praised them. Back when I was a teenager I took my Camaro to a garage that knew my ex's father becuase the tranny was leaking. Six times they tried to fix it, and on the seventh they told me they weren't going to do it. I took it to Aamco they showed me teh crappy gaskets the other place was using and that they totally neglected the kick down cable o-ring, which is where my leak was coming from. And on top of which, the cost was alot less than I expected and only took them about 45 mintues to do.

I'd have to agree. Even most mechanics don't know much about automatic/hydromatic transmissions. Thats a whole other issue all together.

I get my car back tonight. I went in yesterday, and looked at the rebuilt I just had. It was torn up bad. I havent even driven the car hard since I got the rebuild. But my uncle called in and said something, i dont know what, but im getting a new tranny with a new torque converter free. So I pick it up tonight. I guess not all aamcos are bad its just some of the work needs help.

"tuning" is a CAI and rims?? I'm confused.

I thought tuning was more or less adjusting the timing, fuel flow, calibrations, and such.

Seems you add aftermarket parts and THEN "tune" the engine.

Sorry, just a pet peeve.

NO a tuner is now used as a general term of people who modify cars from their orignal factory state

Which is bullcrap. But I digress..

Yes, changing to aftermarket rims CAN cause problems with the transmission and driveline parts (differentials/shafts/etc). Hyundai doesn't exactly build the most heavy duty transmissions, and upgrading to an aftermarket set of wheels that could be considerably heavier would cause more wear on the drivetrain parts. Also your camber and toe-in/out may not be adjusted for the larger diameter tire and wheel, thus also adding more stress on the drivetrain and suspension pieces.

Do get upset, but I'll disagree with that.
Anyone can modify a vehicle. Shoot I think alot of people have proven that you don't even need tools or proper knowledge to do that.

But to 'tune' a vehicle takes alot more indepth understanding of a vehicle, and I'm not just talking internal combustion engines in general, but each specific vehicle. One reason why many real 'tuners' specialize in a certian vehicle or make.

Got the car back! He says his best guess is a line or seal or something got broke or plugged and the fluid wasnt getting to the bands and clutch and it just got seriously charred. So I have a brand new unit. new parts, and a new torque converter. Now its riding like its new.

From rebuilding engines and transmissions, I'll take transmissions any day. Except Ford E40D trannys. Yikes.

Double Ay emm see oh got chased out of Madison a few years ago, with a crapload of lawsuits following them.
