I got a warning tonight for my red underbodies. As I pulled into the Kmart parking lot I noticed to City cops. I wasnt breaking any laws I was aware of and one comes behind me. I slowly put on my seat belt and keep driving like nothings happening. Then he turns on his lights and I pull over. I was cool with him as was he with me. He just proceeded to say the cops in town and some state troopers have pulled over 20+ people for neons. They are cracking down here. Saying every color but yellow and white is illegal. He said that I can only have them on, on private property and parking lots. So instead of breaking the laws I just took them off when I got home and selling them locally for $100. I dont want to ship out the tubes because a) I dont have the boxes or anything close to sufficient to ship them with b)I dont want any to break and them be my fault for breaking.

Another Ohio cop that doesn't know his own states' laws:roll2:
The only bulb that can show is yellow. Any color is legal as long as the tube or bulb itself is not visible. only the glow can show. The only exception to this rule is with red & blue, the only stipulation to the rule for these colors are that the glow does not extend out past the front bumper of the car.
I used to have a copy of the Ohio vehicle lighting code in my glovebox untill I moved to Indianapolis for a couple of years then I either threw it out or misplaced it. Now that I'm in Ohio again I better find me another copy. If you ever get a ticket for your neons don't pay it. Show up in court to challenge it I'm sure the judge will either know the codes or read them over before the case & drop the charges.
I run around w/ my red neons on all the time & never get bothered (I live just east of Cleveland in the suburbs) I had a cop pull up to me in a parking lot & I thought for sure he was gona harrass me about them but he simply told me "Hey nice car, where'd you get that hood?" We talked for a min or two & that was it.:)
I drive by our neighborhood cops nightly/ I'm sure they've all noticed my neons by now. They just aren't stupid & know the law, I assume.

My reds are pretty bright. The front bumper one does shine far out but you cant see that bulb. Also the sides arent visible but shine out a good foot from the sides of the car. The back tube also is very bright. On the warning slip it doesnt say Ohio Revised code. It was a city ordinance thing or something. But if its a city ordinance then why were troopers also pulling people over for them in the city limits?

I think if it's a state highway running through town they (Highway patrol) are allowed to (Pull you over) but is usually considered a no no among the law enforcement community. Kinda like stepping on the town cops toes so to speak.
I beleive, if I remember correctly, the only place on your car that the red tube can show is on the back. As for the sides, it doesn't matter how far out they glow as long as the tubes not visible. & the front- no tube visible & no glow past the front bumper. I have all my tubes hidden, the glow on the sides & back reach out a few feet & the front it cuts off slightly before my front bumper. I did this by putting the front tube behind the black air deflecter that's directly under the core support (radiator).

Yup....pretty much a big waste of money in my opinion. I could think of better things to do with $110 than spend them on silly neon lights.

& it's just that - an opinion. If you don't like them you don't have to insult them. Just don't say anything at all. Just like I won't say a word about your car;)

hmm, we asked a local cop about neons and he said, that they would pull over red and blue, but anything else can fly.. so at least for Cbus you safe with neons, not me cuz I have blue hhehehe

Some towns may have thier own ordanience on auxillary lighting. Make sure your dosn't or atleast know what it is if they do. My hometown in N.W. Ohio didn't have any. So All I had to do is follow the state laws.

In Ohio across from me in Monroe co. you can ride around all you want with them on long as they don't flash and you cant see the tube.

I from IL so I only know our laws, but here the state has no opinion. So it is left to the countys. My county, Tazewell, has no laws; so It is up to the cities to make the laws. I live in the Peoria area (its about as close to the center of IL as you can get). I say Peoria area because Peoria alone does not have all the fun, some of the cities around it have great curisins as well. The bad part is each city has a slightly different law. Peoria says no lights beyond the stock setup which means even installing fog lights is illegal. But the enforcment of the law is left to the descretion of the cops. Most will leave you alone unless the lights are distracting while driving.
In East Peoria, which is where I live, the last line if the law reads "all but the forementioned lighting options are unlawful." The only things mentioned in the law are heads, tails, turns, and plate lights. Here is the fun part, and I brought this to an officers attention, according the the law your dash lights are illegal. He said that is technicaly true. I laso asked about neons, he said you will almost always get pulled over and be given a warning but you won't often get ticket.

Wow!,.. talking bout lost in limbo! I hate it when there are no set rules and things are left to the discretion of the officer. You catch the wrong cop on a bad day & you're his b**ch.
I just noticed your user name. I was bitten by a big nasty Brown Recluse when I was a kid. Wasn't fun those things are pretty dangerous.
