I just called the Ohio State Highway Patrol because the car that I bought for my daughter has tinted windows and I wanted to make sure she didn't get pulled over for her windows being too dark.

The new state limits for window tint are:

Windshield: 70%
Front Drivers and Passenger: 50%
All Rear windows (back and passenger): No Limit

The officer did state that you have to remember that windows are already tinted from the factory so you can't put 50% on and expect it to pass. It's the final tint that cannot be more than 50%.

He also said that Ohio will be cracking down on the window tint law more now that the concealed weapon law has passed. He said that the combination of the two laws passing are making officers even more cautious when approaching a vehicle.

He advised me to remind my daughter and also the people in the club that when an officer approaches your car you should put the window down and place your hands on the steering wheel or somewhere else in plain view until he tells you to get your license and registration.

Heh I moved my family down to texas in 1998. I came down first and got setup then went back and brought them (wife and 2 girls) down. I went back up in my old dodge van. Had windows tinted. I got pulled over in Virginia because of their tinting laws. And they even had a drug dog come out. Cost me 1-1/2 hour lag on a 32 hour run. Pissed me off.

that sucks. I see nothing wrong with 15% tint. Thank God Oklahoma has more than half the cop cars tinted because its so freaking hot and humid.

That's a good point about putting the window's down in the car and keeping your hands on the steering wheel in a "palm up" position.

I did that at the recommendation of my uncle (state cop) and it got me out of a ticket for "running a yellow light", which turned yellow as I was under it, with another stop light less than 50 feet in front of it.
