At the local speedway/dragway they sell racing fuel(i think its like 5 bucks a gallon) but its a high octane fuel but most likely an unleaded gasoline. My question is would it be good to use when Im out there racing or would it mess up the engine any? I know to not expect 30hp or any amount of hp but is it worth using just racing out there? Everytime I go out there for "Test and Tune Thursdays" they always say they sell racing fuel if anybody wishes to use it. Just thought Id ask a question about it:)

there are many threads on octane... search is your friend....to answer your question you dont need it unless your running high compresson ratio, forced induction or nitrous

I saw a pump that was selling 100 octane racing fuel for $4.25 per gallon. It also contained 10% ethanol. This was yesterday down at a major carwash.

Please oh please use the search button. This is anothe rsubject beaten to death.

But to sum it up, Higher Octane 'WILL NOT' give you more power.

Octane is a rating of a fuels stability.

Higher octane fuel is for cars that require it so they can make more power without damaging the engine. IE. more boost, nitrous, static compression, radical timing, etc.

Wasn't trying to get flammed here,I know to not expect more power,I was merely asking if it was a benefit or not,not like the one thread about the higher octane giving 30hp,not that stupid about it.:( Thnx tho John:)

Well it's been said but it's not worth it.

I ran nitrous on my last GA and ran 93 most of the time. I tried race gas once. Smelled really good from the exhaust, but, I noticed definate lagging over 70mph. It hurt me more than helped.

With the nitrous it was fine. Other than that. I wouldn't touch it.
