My brakes need changing BAD!! Does anyone know of some good reasources for learning how to change your own brakes, what brake pads to get for my 88ga. This is would be my first time doing a brake job. I have a friend that could probably show me, but he's out of town and I don't know exactly when he's going to be back and my brakes can't wait.

Front discs, or rear drums?
Discs are pretty easy to understand and do; drums aren't rocket science, but they're complex and easy to foul up, especially with the auto-adjust mechanism and the handbrake mechanism.
In either case:
1. You really SHOULD have an experienced helper.
2. Do an axle-set at a time, but only take apart one brake assembly at a time; use the other intact assembly for reference.
Get a general automotive book at Checker/AutoZone/PepBoys.
Get the GM hex-insert (allen head) socket, either 1/4, 5/16, or 3/8 depending on the phase of the moon the day your car was assembled.
Follow directions, don't drive if it ain't safe.
