Ok, I happen to think that the grills on my front speakers (the 4x6's) look unapplealing. I am wondering if anyone has done theirs up to look better? I haven't actually taken them off yet, so I'm not sure how the 4x6's fit behind... but I want to do something with them. Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks,
Dave

Hey i have, those grills are easily cut off from the inside, i put my mb quart 5.25 grills only ( not the plastic housing )in there place, i'll take pics and post later today, looks way better. And yes they are glued from the inside so they can easily be put back to stock when i decide too for any reason.

Here's #2
Looks A1 in person.
And yes, its actually a 6.5 inch speaker behind it, the 5.25 are in the rear deck, nevertheless looks good imo.

Those look pretty good, I'd agree the factory covers don't look so hot.

they look fine to me.......the sound coming out from behind them makes up for the ugly looks :P

its totally worth it, you get much better midrange from it, you get better highs because the plastic grill isn't covering the tweeter, plust they look much better
its not to hard of a job, you just need a mounting bracked on the other side of the door panel, and just sandwich the door between the speaker and bracket, i also recommend upgrading the speaker wire between the headunit and speaker, i didn't do it at first and they sounded alright, then i upgraded to i think 13 guage and the speakers sound increadible, i have the same speakers in my tacoma, they don't sound as good in it because they're so low and i sit higher in the truck as compared to the car

I must have really messed up when I mounted my 6.5's... Cuz if I were to take the grill of, I'd say my speakers is a good inch left of the grill. LOL man, I thought I did good. O well... the speaker is screwed into the door frame, with a spacer, so no turning back now!

it might just be the size of speaker, most companies say 6.5 but they mean the diameter to the edge of the grill, boston judges diameter by the actual size of the cone so they're really like 7'' speakers

Wow, those DO look a lot better... And I have to take back my old grilles because I never put them on (which = $20 to the car stereo place :) What is a good price a pair of 6.5" speakers? And any suggested name brand?
Thanks guys,
Dave

boston if your going for really good sound quality, but the alpines do get louder but they distort more a higher volumes, i've never heard my bostons distort

the type r's i had did, not the tweeter, but the midrange, no matter how i adjust the headunits crossover i kept getting distortion, so i took them back to the dealer and switched for the bostons and haven't had a problem in like 2 years, don't get me wrong, the alpines are great, but they didn't perform as well as the bostons

Would anyone have a pair of 5 1/4 speaker grilles laying around?
I went to Car Stereo One today, and they had a set of 6 1/2's that they'd give me, but those were too big...
Also, in case I decide to get new speakers, does anyone know anything about Eclipse brand speakers? The guy told me that they were $99 for a pair of 5 1/4's.
Thanks for the help everyone.

eclipse makes really good stuff, are the speakers the point source series, or just the plain line

well i can turn mine up as loud as they'll go and they dont distort. :D
well i imagine the point source is going to be the higher end stuff and the plain line is what you're looking at
