Howdy,

1999 Grand AM SE2 2-door with the factory sunroof. Has worked fine for many years but this morning on my way to work it stopped working.

Normally 1 press of the button pops up the back of the sunroof and the second press makes it go back. Well, I pressed it the first time and it only popped up about halfway from what it normally does and now it won't move at all. If I try to help it along I can only wiggle it around. Then when I press the button again it twitches like it's sort of trying to move, but it doesn't go anywhere. Currently it's popped up about an inch and won't go up , down, forwards, backwards, or anything else.

Any ideas on anything I could do to figur eout what wrong before I shell out $100 at the dealer to have them figure it out?

Thanks for any advice.

Check to see if there could be anything stuck in the tracks that wuold keep it from moving frely.

I looke din as best I could but the problem is it's not finishing going UP to even begin going Backwards. I'm also going to dbl check the fuses to make sure it's not something that simple but since it does seem to try to move, I don't think it's the fuse.

Guess I might have to try to get the glass off before I can get in there to see much though.

I hate to say this but the motor is going out. I have the same problem on my 99 SE. My only problem is the teeth on the motor are now stripped. :( I looked around and you can find a replacement sunroof motor for about $50 but I haven't the foggiest idea how to replace it! The chilton's manuals don't even make a mention of a sunroof.
