when i change my oil what does a mixture of coolant and oil look like?
does it mix well, or does it look like it has 2 phases?

It homgenizes into a runny chocolate milkshake, slightly foamy.

YEah, like rixGAphx said it has a light chocloate milk color to it

does it matter it the oil is synthetic or not?

maybe but it shouldnt matter whether it is synthetic or regular what color is the oil in the pan when you pull the plug and drain it ... if it is clean an clear then the above maybe applies but if it looks dirty then the oil will most likely change the color of the antifreeze to the light chocolate color mentioned above with frothy foamy bubbles......... when you drained the oil from the pan did you get any antifreeze color droplets floating in the oil ... is it smelling sweet from the exhaust ie whitish smoke... is the antifreeze in the radiator the same color/consistancy as the oil from the pan...
