Would I fail emissions if I have headers and a cat back system on, but still having the cat on there?

most likely not all depends on the laws. If you go to get a test just put the stock muff on.

depends on if you have a visual check or if they do the sniffer test. if they do a visual they will most likly notice the headers and tell you to change it and come back. happens to alot of the guys on the camaro boards i hang out on.

Headers may increase NOX reading slightly , but not enough to fail the test . Cat back exhaust will not effect emissions . How ever a visual check with headers might be a problem depending on the laws .

Why would headers on a grand am fail an emissions test? I've never heard that before. My car passed inspection with an SES emissions code caused by a supercharger, so I don't see why a normally functioning car with headers can't pass.

If anything has been changed from stock it will fail , unless the part has CARB approval . Some mods can actually improve emissions , but you can't legally use them unless they have been tested to verify this . Vehicles with SES lights on can't be tested in some areas as well , i guess you lucked out there . :)

Here in Toronto we have to get tested every two years . Or when you want to change ownership . So far there is no visual test , just a sniff test . Personally i think it's just a money grab , especially on OBD2 vehicles . :roll2:

i say they should get rid of it. why fail a car if it still running clean jus bc of a damn header is on it? i can understand the sniffer. if it not running good and putting out too much gas, ok then, fail it.
Yeah, I don't understand the visual test either. If the car passes, then it passes. Same with a fail. It is emissions they're supposedly concerned with isn't it? And if they are worried about parts/mods that may not last and continue doing their job, well, won't that get caught with a subsequent test? The car fails, the owner has to make a fix in order to pass, and everything is good all over again.
Sometimes, some rules are just stupid.

here in Ohio,on any car newer then i think 94,they plug into your computer to check for any errors, they don't place the thing over your exhaust on any newer cars, and I don't belive they do a visual test.IMO,any emissions should be just that, just check for fumes, not what someone has moded or what, thats not their place,if a car passes it passes,if it fails then its up to the owner to get it fixed within the time they give and test it again.

Just to clarify, it's 1996. (First year 100% OBDII)
PA emissions test is...
96+ = code scan
95-older = visual inspection only
