View Full Version : WAI vrs CAI torque?

Okay, basically im tryin to get as much torque outa my car as possible, and i was wondering if if the wai will give me more torque than then cai? ive been told that wai gets more torque from one person but was trying to get info on this from others! thanks for the help!(will have WAI and ram air hood if i go with WAI over CAI). Also are there any known problems with WAI's that CAI's dont have or CAI's have and WAI's dont? or any problems with them in general? thanks again!

CAI brings in colder air colder air = more O2 thus its better. only thing with a CAI you cant drive into big puddles or in deep water but when do you do that? CAI's are always better i would get the stage 2 CAI for your 3.4 from doctor speed. WAI's suck.

I've heard a lot of different opinions on the subject, and everyone has their own preference. But I've found that my CAI is better than when I had my WAI on. There is more heat soak with a WAI so I would recommend going with a CAI.

It's pretty simple....CAI = cooler air. As far as torque increases...it'll be minimal. The standard setup for most guys is exhaust & CAI. After that, Aftermarket MAF, PnP intakes and throttle body. Next step would be head work, and then either S/C or Turbo. Tie that all together with a tuned PCM upgrade and you're pretty well set.
Unless you want to go full boat and yank the engine, replace the tranny and do a custom rebuild for $$$$!! :)

... hey, I'll let you know EXACTLY how much difference a CAI makes on Saturday (if the weather is fine) as I plan on doing a run without and then with a CAI so that should give a fairly decent idea, all things remaining equal :)

And we all know the CAI is most likely going to be better at that . ;)

I would say CAI is better. BUT!- It is much harder to inspect/change the filter, a little harder to install, and it's more expensive. If you don't mind doing a little extra work and spending a few extra dollars, go CAI. I have heard people say a WAI can actually damage the engine but I think that's kinda dumb. Older cars had a carbureator with the filter right on top of it in the engine bay, and that wasn't a problem.

yea, CAIs are better, i'd like to have one on my car. but for now i'l stick with the WAI i got rigged up in my car. itway cheaper then a cai, even with the almost 8inch K&N cone. and i see way to much rain in texas and maryland to want to put the filter so close to the road or tires.
