Don't know how this happened

As I was switching my Sprints to Eibachs this weekend, I looked at the passenger strut mount and it was all messed up. I always heard some sort of squeaking sound when turning my wheel, and I guess that was it. Don't know how it happened, though. Kinda looked like instead of rotating on the bearing, it cut its own pass on the bearing plate. Just thought it was kind of weird because I don't know how I did it :???:

Yup.
Another thing-should the struts push back hard the way shocks do when they're compressed slightly?
