system in an 01 2.4

hi

im installing a sound system in a friends 2001 GA 2.4L.

the system keeps cutting out, and sometimes switching from the comps that are installed or tot he subs only and shit like that. im thinking its the alternator. we always bump it, and the system sucks about 1000watts max, and 500RMS. i have a 1F capacitor that i havent put in yet. would it be the alternator, or what? his battery is drained completely after we seriously use the system. the morning after he cant start his car.

any idea?

If you're just sitting there with the car in ACC or On, then of course you're going to drain the battery. I was running 2 MTX 4250D's and a MTX Blue Thunder 241 for almost 6 months when I first had my 00', and I never had a problem. I also never ran it for extended periods of time with the car off.

You might want to upgrade your battery to a red or yellow top

yeah, could be that battery, or you might not have the amp hooked up right and its using some power when the car isn't on, or if you play it while no running the car then you really drain it

yeah my friend does like to do that, and i made sure to let him know that its BAD for his battery (wel not bad, but u know what i mean). ill see about upgrading.

so a new alternator wont make a diff then?

i had a 2.4 and it by it self has a crappy elec. system, then add a audio system to it and it only gets worse

well it could be the altenator....if you're driving the car around and it wont start the next morning. that means the altenator is barely putting out enough juice to keep the car running and charged up. if it totally didn't work the car would eventually die with lack of power.

could be the battery not holding charge. in which case you'd want to get a bigger battery. a drycell is king in this case, but nothing wrong with a good ol' acid filled battery.

a cap MIGHT help, but i doubt it in its current state. they store energy, but if there's no energy to store then they're worthless.

my gf has the 2.4 and her whole charging system has been revamped and upgraded. and she's running close to 1800 watts rms, that's all the stuff she has in her car in my sig.
