Manual transmissions are a new world to me as of last Monday....I see B & M makes one for my car (or if you have a 2002+ GA with a 5 speed). My car has a normal throw I guess, though 1st to 2nd is a bit long, would it benificial, or would it drive me batty for everyday driving?

I've never used one to be able to tell you for sure, Jay. I know I'd love to have a shorter throw in my F150... lol!

They could be, not gonna argue that. I've never actually measured.

its FAR over a 1 and a half foot pull from 1-2.

An 18"+ throw, eh? Huh. I hope you have a big cab. The large farm trucks we have don't have a throw that long. Anyways, we can discuss your absurdly long throw in another thread. This one is about Jay's in his new ride. Let's get back on-topic.

ok. sorry for going off topic.

jay i dont think it would drive you batty. shouldnt make it that much shorter maybe to the point where you could just casualy shift iwth a few fingers then? then again i have never had a short throw but i dont think it would be too bad. then when you go to the track you can get from gear to gear quicker. althought i dont know how it would affect 2-3 and 4-5

Thats what i am used to...the S-10's at work. I learned how to drive stick in a beat up Toyota truck; the synchros were so worn most of the time you didnt need the clutch pedal after first gear.

get it, you won't regret it, it makes the drive much more enjoyable because you don't have to try as hard to shift.

I have the B&M Getrag short throw in my GA. It makes the throw much more shorter but it is a bit of a ***** when its cold because you don't have the leverage to get from gear to gear until the car warms up.
It didn't make me any faster at the track but its definately more fun to drive with.
If you do get one, my advice is first to throw out the B&M aluminum knob. Its freakin' freezing in the winter and will burn the shit outta your hand in the summer.:D

I put my first short throw shifter in a Focus ZX3. It totally changed the feel of driving the car. It felt like I was driving some high priced German sport sedan rather than an econobox.

Hmmm...noted. Was it hard to install? BTW, thank you for the response.

To be honest with you, I didn't install it. The place I bought it from installed it for free but I beleive its not hard to do, I've read it takes about an hour.
Be careful pulling your OE knob off, it takes a lot of force because its pressed on. One guy almost broke his nose pulling his knob.
But when you do get it off, simply twist your knob while pressing down on your new shaft and your knob will self thread.

PM DeeJay.....I think he installed his himself. I know from many other posts from other sites that people think they are so much nicer and somewhat do help with quicker times at the track because your hand is traveling a lesser distance,so therefore each shit is quicker.

Almost every manual vehicle I have driven could greatly benefit from a short throw... but that might be just me... I shift quickly and don't like a huge throw.

Ugh, the 95 Isuzu needs a short throw badly... seems like a huge throw compared to my 94 Getrag. :(
