So, I was browsing the thought in the future to get a different car when I have the funds available and if I want to get rid of my GA, because I really like my car, I just dislike it at moments.
Anyways, would you rather have a car that was 1-3 years old and had 20-40,000 miles and maybe was mid-size and had a V6 or would you rather pay about the same price and get a brand new 4 cylinder?

I hate to admit it but there are some new imports with 4 bangers that are very reasonably priced that will give the V6's a run for their money. I'd go new and get the warranty....

I agree with the Old Guy,
if 20 or 40 horse power is no big deal to you, grab a 4 banger.
You will be rewarded in gas milage in Most Cases.
A used well maintained car saves to 2 or 3 thousand drop in price as you drive it off the lot no matter what engine is in it.

This is a tough question. I personally like speed, but on the other hand, considering how $$ gas is these days, it might be a good idea to get a new 4cyl car and get a warranty. But if you are used to your Grand AM's V6, you will be dissappointed if you get cars like Accord, Mazda6, or Altima 4cyl.

I'm a kid.....damn it, I want my powerful car. And really, just to be different. Everyone around here drives Honda's. It would be *SSSSOOOOO* nice to pull up in a Z28 or something. A V8 is my dream. I'm working my way up....4-banger Cavalier, V6 Grand Am....looking for a V8 Trans Am....I guess the next step after that would be a V10 Viper :P

I'm about to be looking at that same dillema. Adding a third car to the group. I figure I'll look both ends up and down before I decide.

get a used Q4 GTZ for ~ $2500, spend another $1500 rebuilding the motor and you have a cheap, fuel efficient american car that outruns alot of new V6 cars easily. voila!
now you have good mileage, you've got a rare car, you've got speed and reliability if you find a good one; all that's missing is the warranty..
i wouldn't buy a new car. like it was said, you lose $3000 or so on the value of one as soon as you put 1/10 of a mile on it. even without a warranty, you'll spend 1/2 as much or less buying a good used car and doing repairs to it over a year's time.

How about a Z06 with CAGS that gets 30mpg highway, real world miles?
I voted used. More powerful is good. Bigger is a consideration.
I never buy new. Buying new is pretty much a proven money waster - warranty be damned, because of depreciation. Buy a recent used model, the price is lower, and often the dealer will throw in extra warranty, pretty much matching the original warranty anyway.

The newest car I ever bought was my 97 and it was 5 or maybe even 6 years old.

When buying my car, using blue book data as well as charting all cars that I looked at, I did some statistical analysis and determined using regression analysis that the best value when buying a car is buying a 1 year old car. Buying anything older and you pay too much for the life left in the car. Not suprisingly, a 2 year old car had the second best value. So, I will always buy 1 year old cars as long as this holds true.
