K well basically I am just wondering How does the 2 ohm and 4 ohm subs work with an amp... If the subs are 2 ohm, will the amp automatically send out the 2 ohm wattage? I am not too keen on all this audio stuff... How much of a difference is 4 ohm from a 2 ohm sub? Thanks

With a lower impedance sub, the less resistance your amp sees, thus it is able to put out more power. So like you said, with a 2 ohm sub, your amp will put out what its rated at into 2 ohms.

The key thing with 2 ohm loads on an amp..you want to make sure your amp is 2 ohm stable or else it won't work, or if it does work, it won't work for long. Running in 2 ohms generally causes an amp to heat up quicker so if its a hot day, and your really pounding your system, it stands a better chance of overheating and your sub amp will shut down untill it cools.

Hope this helps

so how can I tell if the amp is 2 ohm stable...

most amps are 2 ohm stable, some are 1 ohm

yeah I eventually want to go all alpine except for my Pioneer deck.. but I was looking into the amps and they are quite expensive if you go with Alpine.. The Type R 10's that I am getting are only 300 W RMS and for a good amp to run those is about $400 or higher...

anyone have any good suggestions for a good amp to run a pair of 300 W Alpine Type R 10's. amp under $300 preferably...

you might be able to get a rf power 501bd on sounddomain for around $350, mine puts out about 650w rms at 2 ohms

What kind of amp do you have? Most amps that can do 2 ohms will have their power rating @ 2 ohms in the literature for the amp.

Like Tommymcc said, most are 2ohm stable, but definately not all amps are.

If you want to stay with all Alpine The MRD-M500 (about 250-280 watts per sub) is a great amp for the Type R 10's. Or you could go with 2 MRP-M350's, one to each Type R (about 350 watts to each sub) to really get alot of bass out of them. Or Of course 1 M500 to each Type R for over 500watts per sub.....now that would be sweet :D

Before you purchace anything you going to want to make sure your subs and amp(s) will work with eachother. You can get the Type R's in both dual 2 ohm and dual 4 ohm. If you go with a single M500 for 2 R's you'll need 2 dual 2 ohm Subs. If you go with 1 amp per sub you'll need dual 4 ohm models.

well right now I have a small 500 W Sony xplode amp running a pair of MTX 300 W 10's.. But like I said I want to go all alpine so those are gonna go...So the MRD-M500 will work to run both 10's.. But I see that the MRD-M500 is a 1 channel amp. How does that work to run 2 subs? I am soo confused with the whole amp situations with systems.. I should read more about them I guess. Yeah I would only want to go with 1 amp for the subs..I already have another alpine amp to run the set of components I have and I only want to have 2 amps in the car...3 seems a little too much... But the MRD-M500 would be perfect for what I need. THanks for all you help... I would be lost if it wasnt for this site... :D

if you run the mono amp on two dual 2 ohm subs they'll put either a 2 or 4 ohm load, two dual 4 ohm subs will pull either a 1 or 8 ohm load, the load depends on how they're wired

if your wanting the most out of them i'd get either 1 mrd1001 for the two, or 2 mrd501 for them

so what is better.. I see type R 10's with dual s ohms and dual 4 ohms... Im not going to be competing or anything i just want something that sounds good... and with 2 dual 2 ohms, which amp is better.. and with 2 dual 4 ohms, which amp is better..

MRD M1001 for 2 10's???? That is more power than needed for 2 12" Type R's You can run 3 12's with that amp!
I would suggest ONE MRD M501 for both 10's. I just picked one up for to 12's, and it sounds great. Plus, I got it for $400.00 including a 4g wire kit at a local car audio shop.

it is more power than you need, but it won't hurt it to give it a little more than the rms, they max at 1000, so 500 shouldn't hurt it

just picked up a pair of Alpine Type R 10's this today... Bought them off ebay for around $150 and it ends up the guy lives on the west side of my city.. so he dropped them off.... so this is my system as of late...

Pioneer 9600 Head Unit
Alpine Type R 5.25" components powered by
Alpine MRV-F340 4 channel amp
2 Alpine Type R 10's soon to be powered by
Alpine MRD-M501 OR
Alpine MRD-M500 (They are very similar but dont know which one to go with... any suggestions?)
with a Pyramid 1.5 Farad High Performance Digital Power Capacitor
with Stinger 4 guage amp kits...

the 501 is the newer version, the main differences is the looks, i believe it gets like 50 more watts rms, plus they can link up to the new alpine headunits so you can adjust the settings with the headunit rather than getting a hex wrench and adjusting them in the trunk

k sounds like Im going with the 501 then it will only cost me about $30 more

very good choice

one other question, are you running them in a sealed or ported box, i'm not trying to start that arguement back up, i'm just curious

they are in a sealed box... I have heard that enclosed is better for a trunk and a ported box is for a hatchback... So yes they are in a sealed box...

What type sub would be best for 1 12 inch Type R?Also which is better for say rap music and say rock music as far ar 2 ohm or 4 ohm if it actually makes a difference? Thanks!

tommymcc

if your listening to rap than i'd go with ported, the good thing with type r's is th at even tho you port them they still retain alot of the tight bass sound

if your gonna run just 1 sub i'd go with a dual 4 ohm sub so you can wire it in 2 ohm since 90% of the amps now are rated at 2 ohms

:agree: most rock, country, etc. will sound a little sloppy with a ported box. it's not a night/day difference to most people, but you can tell a difference. as where rap.......well you can tell a slight difference, but its not as obvious as other genre's of music.

and if you're only going to run 1 sub i'd get the dual 4 ohm. but if you plan on adding a 2nd soon i'd get the dual 2 ohm. you'd just have to run it at 4 ohm until you get the 2nd one.

u can always wire your subs parallel to get 2 ohms.....or just hook em up staight and get 4 ohms....but 2 ohms is always better....just make sure you have a good pair of subs preferably dvc's

tommymcc

2 ohms isn't always better, for spl it is, but for sq it isn't, an amp THD (total harmonic distortion) is based upon the amp being run at 4 ohms, so running it at 2 or 1 ohm you loose sound quality, it usually not enough for a person to detect, but it happens

also, running a dual 4 ohm sub in parallel will give you a 2 ohm load, in series and you'll get an 8 ohm load, a dual 2 ohm sub in parrallel gives you 1 ohm and in series gives you 4 ohms

then if you have 2 dvcs, dual 4 in parrallel gives you 1 ohm, in series you get 4 ohm, dual 2 in parallel i believe gives you .5 ohm and in series you get 2 ohm

also here is a link to a sub guide www.sounddomain.com/shop/wooferwizard.pl

actually wouldn't you get 4 ohm series with dual 2 ohm?
