umm actually the 2.4 is the only one that has a 5 speed....v6s are autos only...so there is no way to just swap one in

side note....the 3.1 isnt much of an engine...find a 2.4 with a 5 speed already in it.... :)

either way,its gonna be $$$,lots, lots, lots of work. And if you have no tools to do any of it yourself, kiss your wallet goodbye because auto mechanics charge out the @ss do that stuff. But its possible, don't think it isn't,its other factors that make it impossible for some. Just be happy with what ya got,Id love to have a stick but you get what you get and all you can do is work your tail off to save the money, find someone you know and become their shadow to possibly help lower the price of the work(meaning knowing someone who could do the work) or just wait for the next car you will have in the future:)

did they have 5spd 2.8l / 3.1l options in the late 80's or early 90's? that might have been what he test-drove... but there was no factory manual 3100/3300/3400.

you can probably swap a getrag 5spd from a beretta 2.8l/3.1l into your car. you'll have to be able to weld in a new mount for the 5spd, cut out a place for your clutch pedal, and trick your computer. it's been done and documented with a handful of 3100/3400 berettas. not sure if the 2.4 5spd will bolt up to the v6 nor wether it would be a good gear match.. but you could certainly use the shifter, center console and clutch pedal from one.

i think you could probably do it for ~ $800 if you did your own work and got a good deal at the salvage yard. from what i hear from the beretta people, the worst part was getting the 5spd mount in just the right place, and the process taking at least a week to complete.

you'd have a hard time finding a mech to do the swap, and with it being totally custom and taking them a looong time, you'd pay mucho dinero.

i bet a 5spd 3100 with no other mods would outrun a 3400 gagt with approx. 0 problems, once you'd learned to shift it.

go for it man. i want to see somebody pull this off in a GA. do it. i'll be your biggest fan. i'll direct you to some of the guys who've done it to their berettas if you think you're up to it. =)

yea...they did have a v6 5 speed in the early 90s but they quit making it because it didnt hold up.

i'd think the biggest problem would be the computer...you would most likely have to buy a stand alone unit...they are like a grand
