View Full Version : Wheels for Performance

I just found a place that will repaint my car for around $350. The only problem is, my wheels are white, and they don't do wheels. He referred me to a guy that does, but it would be more expensive then it was worth. So, despite the fact there is nothing mechanically wrong with the ones I have, it looks like it's time to go wheel shopping before I get my paint job.

Question is, what should I look for? I'm going for performance...should I go down a rim size? I don't burn out much as it is...not enough to want a bigger rim size. If I go up a size I'll slow down at the track...unless I get smaller tires...

And any links to any places that have ultra lightweight rims?

Prepare to pay alot. I suggest 17" wheels with either 215 or 225 45 17 tires. That way you can have a tire with very low sidewall flex, but be able to drive city street without worrying about hitting potholes, thus bending or cracking a rim.

Good performance rims would be O.Z., Racing Hart, Panasport, Axis, BBS, Rays...really you want a wheel that is forged, not cast. Cast wheels are quite heavy, but hold up well. Forged wheels are usually made to be lightweight, and very very strong.

Damn $350 for a paint job...........that is so cheap!!What is the name of the place that is going to do it?You are getting a great deal if you can trust them to do a good job for that cheap.

The place has that price posted on a price sheet in their main lobby, and the paint job has a three year warranty. I don't see that I can go wrong, really.

I figured I'll probably be looking at around 1k for wheels and tires if I get cheap ones with the specs I want. Worth it though, as this car will get a 3400 and a new, built 4T60-E as soon as the old stuff starts going out. For now though, working as much as I am, I may as well throw some money at stuff like the paint job.

they might warantee it for 3 years but find out what it covers. im willing to bed it doesnt cover things like runs. No offence but for $350 the paint might stick to the car but it wont look good. they also must be doing it in a one step paint. as a BC/CC would cost more then $350 for just the paint.

Jayhawk hit it right on the head. Forged is way lighter than cast but also be prepared to pay more and you'll probably have less to select from. More wheels on the market are cast because they're cheaper.
I went with 18 inch Enkei RSV's. They make some nice forged wheels. :D
