i overheated the other day and i pulled over at a pep boys because it was right there. well i saw that the hose coming out of the radiator on the right side came of. that happend a couple of months ago and all i did was put the hose back on fill the coolant and go on my way. well this time i refilled it and turned it on and looked at it. it seemed like the hose was shaking, kinda surging back and forth. so i asked someone to take a look at it. well first he told me that i was putting the wrong coolant in it(green instead of dexcool) which is news to me because it was green when i bought it. and that he would run a test to see if i blew my head gasket. when he tried to test it he said that he couldnt because this other gasket going from that hose to the block somewhere was blown and he couldnt pressurize it. i still dont exactly know what hes talking about because he told me this all on the phone, but the estimate he gave me was around 160. has anyone ever had this happen and do you think thats a good estimate?

thanks for any help

ps. i have a 96 GA 2.4L twin cam with about 167000 miles

All of these symptoms sound like a pressure leak... have you noticed any foamy coolant? Have you checked your oil? Did you look at the oil on the underside of the valve cover?

this could also be due to the problem of now the system needs bled...once u crack the system open like u did and run it u will get air gaps in between the coolant...which would cause him not to be bale to pressurize it as well as he would like...it probably pressurized just kept giving him different reading every 3-7 seconds...have had that happen a few times!
