I recently purchased a 96 GASE 3.1, and I really love this car. I previously owned a 92 Dodge Shadow ES 3.0, and found how to modify it cheap and easy, with a bigger throttle body off of a 3.3 and a 5.0 mustang K&N cone air filter and a homemade cold air intake, advancing the timing about 12 degrees and dropping in a 160 degree thermostat to make the engine run cooler. with these mods and upgrading to Bosch Platinum plugs and better wires, the output, seat of the pants, feel was phenomanial. Now the Questions. Are there any cheap and easy mods to do to this car? I have never owned a Pontiac before, and never a car without a distributor. It also tops out at about 105mph, like it has a governor on it and it won't go any faster. How do you get past this, use a new chip? Like I said, I love this car and plan on keeping it for awhile, so any input on how to make it 'mine' would really be appreciated!! THANKS!!!!!!!!!

you don't have a chip. your ECM would have to be removed and reflashed in order to remove the governer. you *could* unplug the VSS but you'd be locked out of 1st and 4th gears, and your speedometer wouldn't work.. but you wouldn't be governed anymore. drag limitted you could go about 130-135mph that way. not really a good idea.
a 3400 TB will bolt up. it's 58mm as opposed to 56mm.
IMO tranzgenic makes the best CAI for the 3100.
fastforwardproducts makes an underdrive pulley.
i don't think bigger wires make much difference if any.
the 3400 intake manifolds will fit too, with some modification to the EGR, as well as will the newer 3100 manifolds. both flow better...
upgrading the exhaust to 2.25" piping will help alot too.
