View Full Version : dynoed my car!

I just dynoed my car -- it's a 88 Fiero GT, but it has a Quad4 in it. This is my first real tune, and I didn't even touch the timing any. My best was 396hp to the wheels, and I pulled 385tq when I was running a little richer. I changed the plugs and that leaned it out (the spark was blowing out around 20psi), so I need to richen it back up a little more, and I need to replace the flex pipe going to my turbo with a mandrel bend -- I've got the bend, I just need to start cutting and welding. I think she's capable of over 410 at the same boost, but that's after a little tweaking. With another head and if I make a different exhaust manifold, I can't wait to see what it can do. I'm really pumped about it! Assuming 15% driveline loss, thats about 465 at the flywheel from a 4 cyl! Anyway, I just thought I would share. I haven't taken it to the track yet because I'm still using the stock 282 transmission, but I am curious to see what it will do. Thanks for looking!

where are you making the power, as in what RPM? can you post the dyno? what turbo are you using? the other turbo Q4's i know of are only making ~ 350-370hp at the crank... that's at like 8-12psi though. you must have done a heck of a rebuild to be pushing 20psi. details...?
for some reason i was thinking all dynos showed crank power, not at the wheel. wierd.
actually with the fiero base, he shouldn't have much trouble getting that torque to the pavement. at least not as much trouble as a FWD car would.

voy, there are two types of dynos. one for the engine, meaning the engine is not in the car. its sitting on a stand in a shop hooked to a computer. the other is a chasie dyno. take whole car to shop, put drive wheels on a big cylinder that is hooked to a computer. most cars loss power through the trans and diffs. there fore a crank dyno might be 100hp, but at the wheels it might be only 65-70hp. they say you can losse almost 30% of your power through the driveline (tranny and diff)

Nice pull.
I got to witness Chris's 95 GT (aka TurboQuad4 - not on this forum) run on the chassis dyno this weekend. He pulled 315 WHP... tho he doesn't run nearly the amount of boost you are.
Now...if I just had the means to fab a turbo manifold. (or if that damn steering rack wasn't in the way + exploited racing cavi manifold)

Not really, actually. Almost 3000 pounds, quite heavy, and you know it when the rear end starts to lose control on a curve.

Speechless.....all I can say is,thats a lot of power for the size of that car.If you do it right you can easily hook up at the track and get some VERY decent times, sure as hell suprise a few people, just don't open your hood after a couple races;)

Yeah, those vids are from FieroX -- very impressive! My car is fully loaded (about 2800lbs stock with the all iron V6), but the Quad weighs about 100lbs less. I didn't really build the car to be a drag car, just an all around enjoyable street car with decent weight distribution. I have dyno sheets here: http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/040182-8.html That's also the build up for my car. I don't have any pictures with the new intercooler, but I will get some too. I actually might email or PM fierox to talk to him about his car -- he is running alcohol/water injection as well. Thanks for looking!

I thought turboed cars have down pipes not flex pipes.

So you frequent pennock's forum Im doing my fiero motor swap right now also with the help from Loyde from Fast Fieros of dallas I wont mention what motor its a V8 but if you check out what swaps he offers youll prob see the extreme one i picked.
These cars have become an addiction to me i have 3 of them the current one is 90% done just needs the motor swap complete and then ill finish the suspension upgrades.
And the comment about weight well it is a somewhat heavy car but motor placement really helps us alot and Loydes 400+hp 3800s/c fiero handled like nothing was changed in the back.
