question about the chip

i was reading in a performence book that everytime you do an engine mod...you need to have your computer remapped and shiz...wel if thats true...where do i go to do something like that or is there something that i can buy to redo it myself?

i think the computer can redo its self depending on how big the mod is. like a intake on exhaust it should be able to re-map its self
