wow.. we are on the ball for next year aren't we! :)

the only think I would kinda like to see is at the show and shine, a nother category that woudl be a little more fair for the older generation of GA's ;)

Are you talking about the trophies? That is the exact reason we made those categories pretty general.

What kinda of categories would you suggest?

I want to suggest just, two count em 2 weeks later than this year would be perfect so I can actually make it next year

Worst in show? :D

One thing I would like is if sponsors plan of having special deals available at the meet that these be either posted in advance or at least part of the litterature we receive with the welcome package.

For example this year I wasn't aware RSM had some stuff they were selling for less than usual. It might help them plan on how many of each they should bring.

It'd be nice if we received a sponsorship from a sunscreen company :D

Depending on price it'd be nice to do the track thing on a Monday and rent the whole place just for us.

I think that's it for now...

Chad is currently looking into the price for a track rental. The more people interested the cheaper it will be. This may mean a prepay when people register or something to ensure a close estimate of cost.

I put together those packets but wasnt too informed about what exactly was being donated or given away by the sponsors. I just put the sponsors down on paper to thank them for donating "something" I figured that was the best I could do with the information I had :)

I'll be contacting coppertone in January for "samples" to put in the goodie bags :D

Renting the track is in the works. The more people the less the cost will be per car. I have talked to LVD abou the track and we a working on the details a little. One thing that did come up is the date. I was thinking maybe sometime in July. The second or third week is a possiblity. The track would have to be on a weekday (Monday thru Thurs), Friday, Saturday and Sunday are their big days for points racing. As the trophies goes, I was thinking that we could include some new classes and reword some of the old ones. The more we decide now the more time we have to get things done.

if you get the track for next year maybe set up some type of tournament?

and have different classes in it such as:

99+
96-98
92-95
91 and older
other makes and models.

just a sugestion. i do plan on going next year.

... July is MUCH BETTER for me than June since I had to rearrange my Daughters exam schedule this year and I won't be able to do that again ... in regards to renting the track, I believe doing that on a Thursday through the day or for some time at night would be cool meaning we could plan an event for Friday (maybe something non-car related like a ball game or whatever else can be thought of) followed by the Car Show on Saturday (I like the idea of leaving Sunday open for either 'on your own stuff' or for members to make their way home :)

good idea, but cheaper and more fun in hotel parties!!! :D

as far as award classes for older GA's, I know we are in the minority, that being the pre 96, and to a certain degreen even all pre 99's.. but especially the 92-95's.. just I find it practically impossible to compete for general cleanliness and showiness with the newer ones, just based on the fact that the car has been drivin for 10 years as opposed to a couple of years. I know I didn't get a chance really to get mine as cleaned up as I would like to have simply due to lack of time before the meet. but even if I got serious on it (like I did last year, and will do next year), I didn't really feel like we had any chance...

hope that makes sense

great idea on the classes at the track

as far as the date goes, kind of what I recall pushign the date into June was becuase of GAP, but I just saw taht it isn't even happening this year (yes, prolly old news), but maybe we could 'discuss' it with them when picking a date so we don't conflict.. I think that woudl be possible to do.. maybe... :)

bars would be bad idea, people would get drunk and hide behind shawn..
well for next year i have a few suggestions...
1. Pay In advance for entrance fee to help get into park faster..
2. get 2 big grills *sorry irate
3. Have SC Rides (pat)
4. Have a do it yourself day.. like for examle how to clear tails.. or seth to teach us how to fiberglass, or someone to show people how to wire up leds to window switches..
5. Call hotel in advance and reserve spots for GA and members only parking.
6. Get Police escorts (seth you lead)
7. When making name tags include avatar. i could not tell you the amount of people i remembered by their avatar.
8. Bring pink spraypaint for Kelly's car
9. Get professionals to take photos of our cars w/ us posing w/ em
10. Bring a hood and mark it off for Beer Hood Racing.
11. Bring more chairs.
12. Bring a volleyball instead of a basketball! ouch
13. proof underage drinkers. and have diff nametags for them lol
14. More room between cars for show off. so people can get inside and look around if they are allowed and want to.
15. bowling or game of softball, volleyball, soccer
16. Have rsm bring more gift certificates!

That's exactly what I was sayin!! Of course nobody is OBLIGATED to show up early, like if they can't take that much time off work etc.

Also, if we could actually rent the track for a day that would be kickass too!

I'm thinking if we have the GAOC-only track day on the Thursday and keep Sunday open for people who have to drive a long way back there might still be a chance for people who can't attend the Thursday track event to go on Sunday.

1. We tried park didnt allow it.
2. We are working on something a little different for next year.
5. We owned the parking lot with GA's, I think asking for reserved parking may be pushing it. Remember, they are a hotel, not a place set for car shows.
6. Tried, they laughed...
7. Don't think this will work due to the fact that everyone changes their avatar so frequently
9. I can give you the names of a few photographers but for just yourself we are talking a couple hundred bucks. I agree with the idea of getting pics taken of you and your rides, but the professional photographer is a bit much.
11. Don't forget to pack your own chairs.. good idea.
14. Unfortunately in case you couldnt tell.... we didnt have enough room as it was to fit everybody... more room between cars wouldnt be a good idea.... although next year we may hold it in a different area which will alll 100 cars, problem there is that it is public parking right near the pool. Which is where EVERYONE parks just to be close to the pool. Most likely GA's wont be parking next to other GA's.

These are some good ideas and some are a bit to much. I know eveyone want the track and I am pushing them to the limit right now. Give we some time on this, they aren't the fast people to return phone calls. The food problem is being looked into as well. I don't want to say to much right now, its early and I don't want to give out too many detail just incase something changes from now and then.

Chad, Leanne, I don't think anybody is asking you to deliver yesterday :)

We're just very happy about all that you guys do and want to make our best to try and give you ideas to make it even better.

I for one am very surprised that you've already started planning next year and I wouldn't expect any final decisoin/confirmation before next spring.

Please don't perceive our eagerness and will to help out as impatience, unrealstic expectations or criticism on the job you already do. I don't think it's anybody's goal to make you all stress over this. If we do cause that let us know and we'll tone it dow a bit :)

Most of all... THANK YOU!

I would never think anybody would want us to stess over this meet, and I didn't think that when I read the posts. I myself have some great ideas but I know that they are over the top for us right now, maybe in the years to come. I would like to see about 100 plus cars next year, thats the goal I am shooting for. So I am trying to put somethings in place that would get that many people to drive to NY for a few days. Everyone hear has been nice and I'm glad that I signed up. There is no need to thank me for putting the meet together, there are others that did alot of other thing that seem small but are really big. This is what I like to do, get cars and people for different areas and have a good time. I should be the thanking you guys for coming. So here it is THANK YOU,TO THE MEMBERS OF THE GAOC FOR MAKING THIS A SUCCESFUL TURN OUT. I look forward to doing this again, and hope I can help make 2005 better than 2004.

Just curious, would anyone have a problem with paying say $20 next year? This would included your parking at Thatcher Park and would help with things like food for the BBQ, more/better awards and trophies, and give aways.
I really liked it being free to everyone, but with more and more people coming and it getting larger and larger it makes it harder to support. Originally posted by Gimli

I agree. To be honest Nelson from RSM nor us knew about their give away until I was doing the door prizes. As for the spoilers I knew something was in the works but wasn't sure as to exactally what.

We actually had some supports say they would donate and didn't come through, others said they wanted to come show off products and didn't show up.

Next year I promise to be on top of those things sooner.

I would have posted it but was kind of hoping to keep the awards low key. I wanted to keep it kind of a surprise and didn't want it to get to competitive. But next year the info will be posted here.

I think the info packets had a breif discription of each class. Basically mild was fairly stock, wheels, painted interiors, that kind of things are accepted.
Wild would be body kits, superchargers, etc, etc.

I do understand it was a rather broad catagory, but we took all vote into account when adding them, and put them in the catagory with the most votes.

Or we could simply do some regular backet racing with a dial in.

In bracket racing your dial in is like a handicap. one car has a 14.4 dial in the other a 15.6. The 15.6 car will get a 1.2 second headstart, from there it's a race of drivers, who has the faster RT, and who runs the closest to the dial in without breakingout (going faster).

I know my wife replied to this but I just ahd a few to add.
1. We tried, but it would have been a even bigger mess. I also asked if I could help collect money and hand out parking tickets and was told no, that it was against their policy.
2. Hey that was my little grill. lol But don't worry if we have two again I might have one like Chads, my wife wants one for her birthday.
5. I think we did pretty well as it was.
6. They pretty muched laughed and told us it wasn't needed.
14. We already had the lot over filled, but next year the park management said they would help accomodate us better. They we fairly please that we have been there two years in a row and respectful guest.

I would like to see us contact a resturant like smokey bones so that all 50-60+ of us can do dinner some night. I think with enough notice, any resturant would be happy to have the business.

Nametags were cool, but did anyone notice how long they lasted. Might have been a wasted effort in my opinion. I think simple "My name is..." stickers would be cool, and would save time.

I am game for whatever just like the past 2 years. I am not sure about the HOOD BEER races next time. I hope to have my NEW hood. if not GAME ON. The mexican import has to defend the title. A day at the track for "US" would be nice. a bigger place to park would be good too. Thatcher park is a kick ass park.....nice open air feeling and it clears the mind. My name tag was on erika more than on me. Good idea but like it was said before.....didnt last long.

Well... I could be wrong (it has happened before :) ) I just know that I lost mine after about 12 hours, and didnt notice too many people wearing them (but I wasnt looking either). I was also thinking that the stickers would save the time of having to make up a bunch for people who wouldn't show up, and then sifting through them to find the ones that did.

Ideas and Ideas on how to make them work :) Albany 2005

Prepay For Attendee's
Once you establish a $$ amount have one of the people coordinating the effort establish a paypal account (or two) that way you can have the members pay in advance and with a credit card to make it easier. { down side } -- you'd need each person to make a paypal account, perhaps a "Mailed-check" option should be availible for those who couldnt make the account. Just give 10 days to clear a personal check (once recieved) and keep a listing (like the registered members listing) to show who has paid.

Also you could have a donations section for the meet itself. Through the hard work you people have put in so far, its obvious you're not taking home any $$ so people could make donations to the meet and be sure you're not just going to pocket it. That could be paid through paypal as well

New Show-N-Shine Categories
Cleanest (1,2,3)
Best interior (1,2,3)
Mild Pre 99 (1,2,3)
Mild 99+ (1,2,3)
Best Engine v6(1,2,3)
Best Engine I4(1,2,3)
Fastest 4cylinder (based on track times from LVD)
Fastest 6clinder (based on track times from LVD)
Best System (1,2,3)
Best Electronics (1,2,3)
Most Uneek (unique) (1,2,3)
Most Modified (have a listing for each car on their modifications)
-- any others thought of --
(figure in cost of trophies into cost to enter meet)

"For Sale Day"
Maybe one morning before or after track, at the track etc or whatever we could have a mini grand am garage sale. Sell everything and anything used for Grand Ams. I know I could bring a bunch of stuff that I could get my hands on (hvac knobs, fobs, etc) anything and everything custom to OEM.

This would also motivate different parts retailers, (RSM etc) to bring and show of their products at discount prices. This would also let the people attending know that there WILL be stuff to buy!

Cleaning supplies would be great! Another way for the club to make some money! (for the meet) Have a table out with terry cloth towels and microfiber towels and spray cleaners etc for sale so people have the stuff to clean their cars with! Accept donations and get too looking on EBAY for buys on large lots of stuff for the occasion.

Race Tournament
Use best of three runs and have these different brackets'
4 cylinder Stock
6 cylinder stock
4 cylinder Modified
6 cylinder Modified

"The Garage" at the track
Have a few people bring tools to the meet and set up under a tent or in the shade of some trees. Have a sign in/out sheet so people could have access to all sorts of tools and no one has to feel akward by randomly asking people. Have borrowers leave collateral so tool owners dont have to worry about lost/stolen tools.

"THE BOARD"
Have a cork board or some way to post back and forth between the people that are there. That way if people leave to get something to eat, people are havin a party in their room etc, people know that they're welcome and can go join the fun. Here you could also list "sign ups" for various activities like dinners for reservations a day or so in advance. This is an easy way to keep communications open through the group at all times.

Some examples on how it could be used:
"Gone to room 112, party.. everyone welcome!!"
"crusing @ 11pm, meet in so and so parking lot, everyone welcome!"
"Dinner @ smokeys sat night, sign up for reservations below!"
"B double E double R, - u - n BEERRUN @ 7pm, taking orders! See Dan to pay $$"

I will post more ideas/possibilites if I think of them! Let me know what you think

the board is a good idea, but where would we put it? can't exactly put it in the parking lot if we are gonna broadcast a party in a certain room LoL...we'll have randoms and possibly even cops in there hahah (and we don't need to provoke the cops again, esp. with underagers, who tech. shouldn't be drinking anyway)

DJHolla
06-27-2004, 05:41 PM
techinically shouldnt be, but thats half the fun! Not like we're doing all that much LEGAL activities anyways.. shit, burn outs in parking lights and admiring seths COP strobes werent the most legal things... but I like your idea about the room thing.. we could always use a coding system for room numbers that we'll obviously and loudly broadcast on here BEFORE the meet

EXAMPLE offset the room number with a positive 111 when stating theres a party (117 would become 228) that way it throws them off on what level the parties on and what room.. and its simple enough (see a posted sign of party in room 228 and just subtract 111 = 117)

Well maybe admins here can talk to admins there to work something out. Last year we got a lot of people requesting the 2004 meet be in July, we didnt have it in July because of GAP, then come to find out GAP didnt happen, which then forced us into June which it took a lot of rearranging of many peoples work/school schedules to do in June.

Maybe next year do it the weekend before the 4th of July but I am sure there is some other show that weekend... we'll have that to work out. The sooner we set a date the better. :)

yeah that would be good if the two sites could work together. the weekend before the 4th may be hard for people to get off from work, esp. if they vacatin with families on the 4th. probably best to see if/when GAP is, then do a poll for the date :)

I agree around the 4th might be hard for some, and if it was the 4th it would be a busy travel weekend.

AS for GAP, when do they announce the date? Because the way we are going we might have a date soon.

About the renting the track thing.. what if we had some friends that owned cars other then GA's, that would want to come and use the track with us that day (and pay of course) to make it cheaper for everyone. I don't live far from the track, and have some friends that would enjoy joinning us i'm sure.

and.. i was thinking, for the mod day thing if we decided to do it. We could have people that want things done to their car, offer for their car to be used as a module, and in turn they pay for all the parts and what not nessesary to do the mod.

I know I didn't get a chance really to get mine as cleaned up as I would like to have simply due to lack of time before the meet. but even if I got serious on it (like I did last year, and will do next year), I didn't really feel like we had any chance...

i liked the location....but i think we need walkie talkies or something....to avoid the 25 grand am pile up that almost happened this year. i think, that we could host a "non-profit" (donations only) carwash at the meet..near the hotel...and we all work on it one day..we wash some of our own cars..and random people's cars too...the $$ we earn from the carwash can then be spent on cool stuff like pizza and beer....a couple of kegs of labatt blue would be good for me ;)

Since ClubECM is the main orginizer of the event we host it close to the club's home town since it's far easier to plan.

Any more public and we would need a permit (you can't just cram 50+ GA's in a lot somewhere and not be questioned by authorities looking for legal documentations stating that the county allowed us to plop our GA a$$es down) and as we started planning the first annual car show in 2003 we realized costs for a permit for in the $1000s of dollars, not including the permits for canapes, grills, food.... I think we would want to keep the "registration fee" under $200 a person right??

We only live 45 mins north but its like a vacation for us when its time for the meet. And next year I will be legal to drink so it will be a lot more fun. We are up for any ideas. They all sound awesome. I can't wait for next year. I mentioned this idea for this last meet but it couldn't go through do to americade. But We live by lake george, and if you guys are up for something new and different, I am more then willing to put something together if you want to do a day or a picnic up here. There are a lot of rice ricers up here as well as everywhere but i would love to see their faces when they see all these grand ams pulling in I don't think they will know what was going on.

Ive never gone to the meet, and just recently started posting more here. But im wondering about a few things.

How many cars showed up last year (2004)?

What about getting a portable dyno out there too?

Why is it in albany and not a more centeralized locations like PA WV VA OH or maybe even the middle of the county?

Why not get a parking lot reserved just for the show (dont know if this was done, but from some of the posts i read it didnt seem like it)

And what was the cost to go last year (to get into the park, track and what not, not including the hotel trip there and that)

I got a idea for albany 05 on how to raise money.I was just thinking about having a car wash to raise money for the albany meet, like we could charge people about 5 bucks per car?? it's just a suggestion but that could help us either pay for the track or food and etc for the cookout.what does everyone think.and I work at advance auto parts,so I can get all the cleaning supplies at my work discounted.

I think mid August is a good time; the roads arent crowded, its before school starts but after the initial summer buzz wears off, its easy to get time off from work b/c most people dont vacation in August, etc...

I think Sonia and I will fly in for 2005, because we both started new jobs, we dont have any vacation time paid.

Bottom line is, im gonna fight like hell this year to get my wife out there.

We get better rates than business. Someone at Club ECM is "connected" there so we get great rates as long as we don't cause any problems. IIRC we got rooms for about 70$ a night last year, which is a good price for a good hotel. Split two-ways it's very affordable. Depending on the duration of the meet this year I'm sure we could get an even better weekly rate.

We thought about Lake George last year but it would be very hard to work out. Traffic and camping grounds for 75+ cars isn't easy to organize and we have nobody local there. Plus a full week of camping requires people to have good camping gear, which few do.

Albany is the only location being considered for good reasons. The main one being Club ECM, who actually hosts the meet, is headquartered there and all of THEIR volunteers reside in that area. They host one hell of a meet and give out a lot of their time for our enjoyment and it would be very rude of us to refuse their invitation.

Ishan
12-20-2004, 08:42 AM
yeah, ECM does do a great job, and we have the track right there, it's a good spot (plus is only like a 2 hour drive for me :))

12-20-2004, 12:36 PM
How much does it usually cost to get in the track and for the hotel and all that stuff? :roll2:

Gimli
12-20-2004, 12:49 PM
Track is (IIRC) 25$ if you want to race, cheaper if you're just watching. That's on a regular public day. Might be a bit more expansive if we end up renting the whole place just for ourselves on a weekday.

Last year hotel was 70$ a night. Tatcher park was 2$ each to get in I think.

We'll get this years specific details later, when we get it figured out.

sunrunner_pei
12-22-2004, 10:33 PM
In previous years the cost of the track and entrance to Thatcher Park were on top of food/hotel. We're not sure how costs will be broken down yet. Previously there were no entry fees, but that may have to change this year if we hope to rent the track, etc.

well for next year i have a few suggestions...
1. Pay In advance for entrance fee to help get into park faster..
2. get 2 big grills *sorry irate
3. Have SC Rides (pat)
4...

I'll do my best to accomodate the S/C rides for as many as the car will allow. :)

My Suggestions:
1. Renting the track
2. Portable Chassis Dyno
3. Prepay
4. More Trophies :D (Fastest GA Trophy?)

Y2KGPGT
01-05-2005, 02:10 PM
We are working on some new things for this year. I'm still working on the track and we are looking into more trophies. As for as the fastest GA goes is a little unfair to some members you don't have the resources to mod their GA like others do. If we end up renting the track we could to a bracket racing format, to the winner a nice trophy.

Carry your sleeping bag around. Worst that'll happen is you'll end up on a cot in someone's room... might even be someone you know! :D
