Anyone know anything about this +20HP Performance speed chip i have been seeing all over Ebay lately? It's only a couple dollars, and i was thinking about bidding on one. but i dont know. Is it worth it? Will it effect my engine negativly? Will it even work?

Yep. Nope. Yep. Nope.

Basically they're selling a 0.75$ resistor in a fancy-looking box for 20$.

What it's meant to do is trick the IAT in thinking the air coming in the engine is colder than is really is which in turn makes the PCM shoot more fuel in the injectors. The problem with that is that because the air isn't actually colder (ie has a higher oxygen content) the air/fuel ratio is fouled and the engine runs rich. There isn't enough of a difference for extra performance (the stock air/fuel ratios are pretty much as close to stoic as can be) and a long term effect is early failure of the catalytic converter and O2 sensors.

Lots of other threads about this but I think I summed up the most important points.

BTW, if there was a way to gain 20+hp by putting a 20$ part on the car, don't you think GM would put it in stock?

thanks for the tip. well then is it worth it for me to go buy one at radio shack, or will it effect my engine in a negative way?

Causing your car to run rich can foul your plugs, and clog the catalytic converter in the long run. I wouldn't do it.
