please correct me if i am wrong about any of this.
i am thinking about gettin an AED hood and i believe that it brings air to the stock air bock position. if i was to get the doctor speed stage 2 WAI would i be defeating the purpose of the hood bringing air into the engine, and would it be better if i just put a cone on the end or the stock plastic tube.
and, would i be making anything near the horsepower gain with this setup as i would with a CAI.
last thing, would the SD hood work in a similar fashion.

face it WAI's suck if you want performance go CAI

Actually if you can box in the filter and just have a sealed opening to the hood scoop you might see a little boost in performance, but it would be minimal. I looked at another member's hood in Albany and it can be done with a little fabricating. It would definately solve any problem that you'd have with getting water in your CAI as long as you have a way to close off the hood scoop when it rains.
The price to performance ratio would be way off though unless you're just doing the hood for looks.

thanks for the input but would it be best to shell out the money and get a WAI or cut a hole in the stock air box.

The S/D hood will work in the same way as aeds hood you could just keep the stock air box and modify it and get the ram air effect there is a few post floating around on how to modify the air box.

And after you modify the box, you can actually put a K&N cone in there instead which is what quite a few guys have done.
I coudn't find any threads on modifying the box, but you can remove it and smooth out the ribs inside.
