checking my engine to see if my head gasket is cracked or blown...but how can i tell?

obviously there is a head gasket problem, but how can i tell if it is cracked or blown and which gasket? Anyone have any pics or info?

20 or 30 bucks will buy a compression tester.

That is what a mechanic will do if you take it to a shop.

The instruction how to use it are on the box it comes in.
