Hey everyone. I would like your opionion on if i should tint my front windows or not. My back ones are tinted to 5%, according to North Dakota State law i can go as dark as i want on the back window, But the front windows can be no darker than 50%. The guys at the tint shop says they will do it for me but they will not guarantee the tint since it will be below the legal limit. They said that with the factor tint ( which isn't much ) and the lightest tint i can buy which is 50% it will bring it below the legal limit, and some of the guys have gotten tickets from the police for the tint being to dark. Should i chance it or leave it alone? here's some pics for you to help me decide.
thanks

PS my back windows are the darkest i can go ... so if i do tint the front with 50% would it look dumb?

I would definately tint the front. It looks strange like it is now. Just my opinion but i would tint the front as dark as the tint guy will go and just take my chances. Just remember if you get pulled over always have the windows down before you pull over and be careful.

It's up to you... I didn't tint my fromt windows (yet) because I just don't need the hassle. We aren't allowed anything on the front windows beyond factory tint.

I would not tint... What if they make you take it off when they write the ticket? That's $$ down the drain. I would use it on something else.

i say go for it, if you're willing to fix it if you get caught. i think it's mostly a matter of chance as far as getting a ticket. while you're at it...get mine done too please :D

I'm having a similar dilema, just tint the back...or all around, and should I keep it legal or go all out...just can't decide

this is just constructive criticism....i think it looks goofy without the front tint, tint them bad boys. :D and 50% is too light in my opinion. if it were ME, i'd tint it with about a 20%. with the rest of the windows already tinted with 5% that 20% will look even darker. the only tint that's legal on any of the vehicles i drive is my moms car...it has 35% all the way around. but it's platinum and the reflection makes it look darker. and i've never (knock on wood) gotten harrased for my tint. my dad has several times, but i never have. it's really up to you, your car and your money.

and i've never really understood the reason why they won't warranty the tint even if it's illegal. there's a couple places around here that wont warranty it if it's illegal. that's just an excuse to get out of replacing something that needs replacing if you ask me. what does the tint being illegal have anything to do with the quality of workmanship and the quality of the product?

Well i have a white 94GAGT(white cars need tint!) and i had the windows tinted 20% up front and limo over limo in back!(need my privacy;)) the front is darker then the Detriot starderized tint level but when i got pulled over on a burnt out back bulb the officer asked if i knew that my windows are to dark(it was at night to:mad: ) I told the officer that there not that dark its just at night they look pitch black. The officer asked me to roll up the window and he took his flash lite opened my door and shined it threw! I was scared that i was going to get screwed over on my tint! The officer said nothing gave me back my liscence and registration then told me to have a good night!

I was like sweet and remebered his name so if i got pulled over about it again i could say "...well officer richards told me they were the standard level" After that i never had a problem with them. Just dont draw to much attention to yourself;)

hey thanks for everyones input. I still haven't decided how dark to go yet though and i only have till thursday AHHHHHHHHHHH. I keep thinking to keep it as close to legal as posible with 50% but i see so many cars with 20 and 30% tint on there rides. Kyle ( tint guy) says he gets a ticket just about everytime he goes to a car show in Bismark. I"m not sure i want that. anyway i'll talk to eveyone later. Also i'll post some pics after i get it done what ever i decide to do.

here in AR they can take your license and put it behind your window. if they can read it just standing there (without having to stick their nose to the glass) you're fine, but when they put your license up and can barely make out the outline..........you might have a problem

and the tint guy can probably get by with his tint. i dont remember how, but a guy i know used to own a tint shop and he always got out of his tickets. i cant think of his excuse for anything though. anyways, all the people that work at tint places here have DARK windows. and im talking CAN'T see in the vehicle during broad daylight at high noon  and they dont hardly get hounded

Well I don't know all the little things that can get you out of a ticket but I do know of one that is a legit thing. My friend has 20% tint all around and his windows look black.Well he showed me this card that had the Sheriffs logo on it and it had "Limited to Window Tint" on the signature line.He told me if he were to get pulled over anywhere all he would have to do is show this card and he gets off.His uncle works at the sheriffs office and I check it out(asking some people that work in the sheriffs office and family of some I know) and it is actually something you can get, well if your family of a law enforcement. He can get as dark as he wants and go anywhere. But here in Ohio, back can be as dark was you want but its like 35% being the max you can tint,im doing 25% i think.Friend that has a dodge neon thats white has 17% and you can see in it with the sun shinning. He said hes been followed but never stopped.

I've had my tint on for a year, since I bought the car with 20 all around and out limit is 50.. I have not had any trouble at all!

I'm gunna try and get one of those card things that lets you legally have tint, my uncle is a deputy sheriff up here in Maine.. and he isn't exactly.. 'by the books' with a lot of things, so if he can hook me up I know he would.. haha. I'll talk to him

About your tint, all I have so far is 5% in the two little windows in the back, I got the cheap window tint from advanced autoparts, the stick on shit.. and it is a pain in the ass to do the back window.. so I havn't done that yet. I was gunna go with 20% all the way around the rest because I got 35% and put that on and it was WAAAY to light. If I were you I would go with 20%. Just my 2 pennys.

i like it around here...i know of a couple of cops that have actually gotten tint tickets for their personal ride. now im fairly positive the tickets didn't stick, but i think it's funny they got pulled over and ticketed just like a normal person.

That's just not true. Just because you're allowed to do something in one jurisdiction doesn't mean you can do it everywhere else. That Sheriff who signed the card has no authority whatsoever outside his jusrisdiction.

Well my car is at Kyles putting tint on. I decided to go with 30% instead of the 50. There are so many cars and trucks with dark windows here that i decided to chance it. The 50 just didn't seem dark enough to look nice, especially since my back is at 5%.
thanks for everyones comments.

gimli is right to an extent. as far as i can remember from my government classes other states have to respect the laws from which you came. in other words.....if legal tint is 35% here in AR, and i go to a place that says i can't have tint at all they have to respect the laws where i live. now if i were to move there or stay for extended periods of time i think that pretty well goes out the window.

but he's right at the point that if it's illegal where you live, but the sheriff gave you a free pass that pass probably won't hold up outside his jurisdiction

I've heard of people getting a note from a doctor (optometrist of course) saying they needed tint for medical reasons... what do you guys think about that?

you used to be able to do that here, but when everyone and their brother started doing it the courts made it were the dr. had to actually come in and testify. so when that started cutting into the dr.'s pocket book from being off they quit giving those out.
