Has anyone here or know of someone who has put a supercharger on their Ecotech? Everywhere I've seen them has put them at a minimum of 4500 Dollars. Not cheap. If anyone has gotten one, how are they performing? Pics of the install?

I've seen the one on RSM's Saturn ION and it looks awesome but the install on anything else Ecotec will look different.:D

I've never understood why people buy a car that is not a performance car.
Then turn around and spend a ton of cash on mods to make their car decently fast.
When they could have taken that extra cash they spent on mods and bought
a car that would be faster, than their modded car, and still have a warranty.

It's pretty easy to understand. There have been tuners around for ages taking any stock engine and making it faster. I for one wouldn't be satisfied with a stock anything. I've modified every car that I've owned all the way from the fastest to the slowest.
Your Camaro is a perfect example. If I owned it I would probably be under the hood within the first 48 hours trying to get more out of it. Take a look at the Sports Compact Drags sometime and you'll see numerous 4 bangers pulling 8s including an Eco Sunfire. Why do they do it???? Because they can!! :)

I have "heard" through the grape vine that people are squeezing as much as 400-450 horse power from the Ecotec?!?!?
Granted that set-up is very far from streetable I'm sure. Probably running 18+ psi boost and NOS to get those numbers, but just contemplating that kind of power from the stock block is pretty amazing!

Well that would be drag teams. Lisa Kubo's Saturn Ecotec is boosted beyond belief and running in the 7's now. GM first got an Ecotec to over 800hp.
In testing, the stock Ecotec got to 283hp reliably before all four rods snapped, so yup, you heard right.

For that high of a number, I'm sure they're pushing 36-42psi. And aftermarket connecting rods. Not many stock connecting rods for many cars can withstand more than 7-9psi before breaking/bending.
Does anyone know if the Ecotec is an interference engine?

I don't think so but don't quote me on that. When I was coming up with my cam grinds, I think the shop said it wasn't an interference engine, but that was some time ago.

It is an interferance engine. We have one at the shop right now that is torn down for inspection because of a broken timming chain and it did bend intake valves...quite baddly I might add.
The cam chains on these engines are TINY!
