Hello,
I just realized that the cigarette lighter in my '99 Grand Am SE that I bought used doesn't work. It doesn't work with either the lighter or anything I plug in there. Should I check the fuses? The wires behind the plug? Any direction is greatly appreciated.

... I would check the fuse first :)

I believe it's a 20 Amp fuse and should be located in the fuse box that's located in your engine compartment on the driver's side near the strut tower.

i had this problem and it affected my door locks also. all it was, was the fuse. i believe ive had this problem twice and it was the fuses. so hell, first time i bought an assortment of fuses, the second i just bought the right type.

k first.. the fuse is under the hood and its a 2 A fuse.. not 20! and second.. check inside the actual lighter to see if anything is inside.. i had to replace my fuse and casing becasue i blew mine with neon lights

I don't believe that it's 2 Amp....I haven't actually checked my car but all the documentation that I have suggests that it is indeed a 20 Amp fuse.

dont worry man.. ive replaced that stupid fuse enough times to know that it is a 2 amp fuse.. ive had to replace it all the time becasue i have a neon light in my car that never stays in.. so you have to put it at an angle and that causes surges of voltage.. so trust me.. its a 2A fuse.. actually ive replaced it with a 3 A fuse and now it hardly ever blows.. guess with it like this till i find time to wire it to my battery and have a kill switch.. damn homework ruins my weekends:(

OK....Finally curiousity got the best of me and I had to check my car. What I found is a Yellow 20 Amp fuse located in position #34 according to the diagram on the inside of the cover. Perhaps that's why Unrealoaded has been blowing so many fuses. It is without a doubt a 20 Amp fuse. Hope this clears it up for you.
