okay, its the 88 olds Quad4 again. everything is absolutely normal except the engine light comes on about 1 minute after putting the car in gear. it never comes on while in park at idle, but after engaging into gear it comes on and stays on. the guages all read normal and the car runs exactly like it has been with maybe the exception of the slightest flutter of rpms at any speed. i wouldnt have even noticed it if that engine light wouldnt have come on and i started watching/listening for things. i just thought it was strange that it comes on only when in gear. any guesses? :???: 145000 miles with a bad cv or tirerod (popping noise when turning) that i was saving up to replace too if thats any help.

If your getting a light, then a code is being set. Having it checked might save you some thime. I'm betting it's related to the trany.

Yes, check the codes. Somewhere, amidst all these years of posts, is a post I made telling you how to get codes easily. Hope you can find it. ;) If not, I can tell you...but I'm kinda tired right now.

Do a visual check of your suspension. I had a noise once on the GA that I thought was going to be a CV joint, but when I looked I found a broken swaybar link. $7 and an hour or two later, and it was fixed!

so what kinda codes would i be dealing with involving the tranny? today while turning left (thats the side with popping noise) from a dead stop it slipped a little but then went through all gears as normal. i thought it is connected to the noise...i gotta get this thing looked at soon.

well, this woman just hit my car and now the tranny is slipping enough for me to worry. it was hit in the front drivers side panel enough that the wheel doesnt want to clear the well...so this sucks...

Ahh, good old 26. Sometimes this can be caused by strange things. I remember someone got it when his shift light (manual tranny) was out. Seems to me that on an auto, this code can be attributed to the TCC solenoid, cooling fan issues, umm, boy, I used to be much better at this. I need my Grand Am back! Does anyone remember the other two devices connected to this Quad driver?

26 - Quad-driver sense voltage shows a low voltage for 5 seconds when battery voltage should be present or if the sense voltage shows battery voltage for 20 seconds when a low voltage should be present.

now the light is out wtf???

It's possible you have a computer on the fritz, but since there aren't any driveability problems (right?), I wouldn't worry. Check the codes again and see if it shows up again. My friend's old Cavalier once had a dying computer, and each time we read the codes, different ones would show up. It was pretty easy to diagnose then!

Make sure all your power connectors are clean and dry. At the battery, alternator, etc.

Have your battery and alternator tested too. Seems like this is a power problem.

I hate computer codes they make no sense

i noticed the lights dimmed some last night when i powered up the window...so i figured alt or battery right then....this is funny too, i was thinking i have never replaced either on this car in 5 years.
