I've been having a few electral problems over the last few days (or that's what I hope they are at least) and I'm going to replace my battery and alternator. I'm looking for a high amp alternator, something around 160 amp but I haven't had much luck. I remember finding a place a while ago that even would do powder coating but I can't seem to find them anymore. Anyone have any suggestions for something I should look for or a place to get one. I'd like to have one powder coated as well.

Also, I've heard it's a good idea to upgrade the wiring. Is this something you can get as a kit, or would it just be better to get a better gauge wire and put the ends on.

Thanks!

Before you spend the money have your charging system checked.
Your going to be mad if you spend 150 bucks on alt and battery and nothing changes.

I am Not real good for eletronic's, but upgrading to a larger wires is not a good idea. The parts are made to work with the wires/Resistance that are stock.

One reason I want to go with a larger alternator is I'm going to getting a much better audio system. From what I know about power and modern cars.... if you don't have enough power for the car, you'll end up with all kinds of problems. That and I think my battery is going to die soon. It's been acting very funny lately.

The reason I wanted larger wires is because of the higher output amp. I just don't think it would be safe using the stock wires with something that would output much higher than stock.

Do you have a voltmeter on hand? you can use both for this but digital is preferable... ok try this start the car up.. as the car is idling... connect the voltemeter to the battery... and see how many volts you have should have 13.3 -15volts no higher.... if so thats good alt is fine... Next after the car had been running... shut it off and then wait about 5 min ... with the ignition off and no lights on or anything so nothing is using the batter... now connect the voltmeter up to the battery... if your voltage is under 12.2 volts your battery is fried... get a new one... but if your voltage is like 12.6 volts your fine.. but make sure after running the engine you wait like 5 min until you check... since the battery wont give an accurate reading.... try and let us know what happens

Well it's a little late for that. I went and picked up an Optima Red Top today and installed it. When I started the car I noticed it started a lot better and idled a lot smoother. I also seemed to get some of my performace back.

As for the alternator. Last time I checked I was getting 13.9V and about a year ago I was at 14.1. The main reason I was looking at replacing it was to get a higher current one. I'm not sure what stock is.... I think around 100. I know the new amp I'm getting is rated at 60 amp and I'm also looking at getting a second that's rated abotu the same. I just wanted to make sure there was plenty of power.

I found a company that has alternators available and they said it would be 169.99 for one and 39.99 for a powder coat. I thought that seemed a little expensive.
