View Full Version : Wiring ALC and DRL to relay/switch

I am wanting to hook up the ALC on my 2001 GAGT to a switch so that I could disable it when I want. Who has done this an exactly how did you do it? Sorry if someone has posted it before, but I've searched and couldn't find anything on it.
As far as the DRL goes I found two ways of hooking up a switch.
1. Wire C2-B4(dark blue) to a relay/switch
2. Wire C2-pin 8(brown) to a relay/switch and C2-B4 to a ground.
Which one does not give a SVS and works on a 2001.
I've read that there where changes over the years and I don't want to screw anything up. Are the changes as follows: 99-00, 01-02, 03-04 ?

the drl is diffrent from our years so i cant help you there but the alc on a switch is easy you just need a spdt (single pole double throw) and all you have to do is wire it so when one side is activated it runs through the photoresistor (light sensor) and when the other side is active it runs through the resistor that you bought... it sounds confusing but if you get in there and take your tme and think about it... its not that hard
sorry if i confused you

I got some extra wire and ran the relay so it sits inside the passenger side fuse box. Also where it says constant 12v I use a switch fuse in the passenger side fuse box.
DRL disable on a 2001 (should work on a 2002 also):
1.) I should not have to say this but first disconnect the negitive terminal of the batt. (cheap insurance).
2.) Remove the middle connector as stated before in the previous posts. Now locate the brown wire (pin 8 on the bottom). This is the pin that tells the BCM that the lights shwitch in not in the auto setting. Cut this wire, leaving enough room to extend it to the relay.
3.)The relay: Get a standard 4 or 5 pin 12V relay. Here is how the pins need to be wired. Pin 30-->go to the brown wire that you cut (on the BCM side), Pin 87-->12V (constant), Pin 86--> ground, Pin 85-->12V (switched when key is on), Pin 87a-->no connect.
NOTE: the 12V constant to Pin 87 could also be switched I do not think that it matters.
4.)Once the relay is connected I used some double sided tape and stuck it next to the fuse box out of the way. Now you need to cut the dark blue wire and ground it just like the 99-00.
5.)reconnect your BCM and your battery and test the system. Every thing worked fine for me no SVS and no DRLs.
Now No DRL
No Auto lights for 01-04
The two wires that connect the light sensor to the BCM, just tie them together with a 10 Ohm resistor in-line A3 the yellow/black wire, and B2 light green/black wire
all of this is on the center connector

If it cools down oud side i will go and get pics for you but riht now it's too hot.

Undo the bottom that covers the computer, 4 screws and a speed clip. And slide the computer out. !!!MAKE SURE THE BATTERY IN DISCONNECTED!!!!. See the wires are very small so take your time

ALC
Cut the green and yellow
A3 the yellow/black wire, and B2 light green/black wire
This is all on the center plug. I left the wires like that because i was goin to add a switch but never got around to doing it

here is the loop on the wires with the 10 Ohm resistor. Radio Shack had em cheap

Step 2 Form No DRLs
Remove the middle connector as stated before in the previous posts. Now locate the brown wire (pin 8 on the bottom). This is the pin that tells the BCM that the lights shwitch in not in the auto setting. Cut this wire, leaving enough room to extend it to the relay

You can figure out how to do the rest :)
This is where i got my switch power power line and grounded everything.

Finish product.
The Good
1. Full control over your headlights
2. Fogs can be on even when your head lights are off They still turn off when you turn the car off. (they still go off when you turn the high breams on)
3. No auto lights, So now you can roll up to the house with the lights off
The Bad
If you leave your parking or headlights on, the car will not beep and tell you they on

it just the way it is for the 2001-2002 cars. 2003+ cars have it easy because all thay got to do it pull the relay

On the DRL disable, which wire would I put a switch in so that I could turn them on/off?
On the ALC disable which wire did you put the switch in?

I don't how to wire the DRL but i know how to wire the ALC

Shouldn't the resistor and the wire from the computer be swapped? According to the pic current is going thru the resistor at both switch settings.

How about this for a switch in the DRL(double pole double throw switch)
Blue(car) ~ | | ~ Brown(car)
Blue(BCM) ~ | | ~ Brown(BCM)
Ground ~ | | ~ To relay
Switch off - stock
Switch on - disabled

it's a three way switch.

I did the DRL delete for my 01 SE and it works great. Now, I am just wondering how I can wire a switch into the DRL line so that I can easily go bakc to stock if needed. Also how does that 3 way switch in the ALR line work?? If the resistor is being utilized does that mean that the lights have to be turned on using the multifunction lever on the left side of the wheel??
