I've searched the forums and have not found out everything I need to know. Also, I'm just learning how to fix cars. Mainly by repairing mine. So I would like a little more detail in explainations if/when possible. (thanks) Ok how do I replace the serpentine belt on my car. I've only been able to loosen the tensioner and get it off the pulleys. I read somthing about jacking up the engine and removing the mount. This is where I have questions. First I've heard not to lift a car by it's oil pan. But, since I'm not acctually lifting the car is this ok? Also, do I need to torque the bolts when replacing them. If so, to what? Plus, what bolts do I need to remove. Thank you for bearing with me.

Have fun with this one bud. My buddy spent over two hours trying to get the mount off, the old belt off and the new one on. He swears he got the whole mount off, but even if he did, there were still part of it there with about a half an inch between the wheel well and the engine. He couldn't even get the old belt off! I took it to my now go-to guy for engine repairs and he said that it was the hardest belt he has ever had to change. He only charged me $54 bucks, but he should've charged me more. lol
But anyway, what my friend did was put a piece of wood between the jack and the oil pan and jack the car up maybe 3 inches.
In all honesty, take to someone who will do it for cheap. Some small local shop, no dealers or chains because they will rape you. It's more of a hassle and time than spending a few bucks. But that's just my prospective.

OK, thanks. I already had the belt off the pulleys but the mount was in my way of getting it off completely. I know a few mechanics who, if need be, wold come over and fix my errors. The point is so I learn alittle about basic car repair. I tired of worring about getting raped.

Yea, that's where we got stuck. We got it off all of the pulleys, we just couldn't squeeze it out. And of course it's important to learn about cars. I am in the same boat. Just sucks when you get so far and you get trapped in a corner.
