On Grand am's that are 1999 and newer there is an easy fix for window motor problems. First be sure that the window motor is the problem by using a voltmeter. If you have power going into the motor lead but the motor will not turn, then this fix is for you.
Acess the problem window motor and remove the three bolts which attach the motor asembly to the window drive. Then remove the window motor and the half of the drive assembly from the door. Next remove the four torx bolts which hold the motor can to the assembly. Remove the can of the motor and the armature and set aside. Notice the motor brush housing on the drive assembly those two little brushes are most likely worn. Simply pry off the motor brush springs and remove the brushes.
Take the brushes to a electric motor repair shop or a hobby shop and see if they can match up some brushes for you. Both of these places can esp. the hobby shop, because the brushes in the window motor are the same as what are used in a RC eletric motor. Simply replace the brushes and reassemble the motor and reinstall. The process is very easy and should take an expericenced DIYer about 1.5 hours. I hope this helps you save the 70.00 to $100+ on needless window motors and regulators that you may not need.
