Its not quite hear yet, but my 95 has just lost a few gears and the tranny is ready to die any day now!

I was lookin on eBay at new transmissions and couldnt find any for a 95 3.1L but did find some for a 96 3.1L for only $200 which had 80k miles on it.

Does anyone know if it will fit on 95 as I know there are 2 different transmissions for a 99 3.4L. My 95 is auto as well as the 96 transmission.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

I would check on having it rebuilt before i bought one on Ebay. You could very easily be buying someone else's problem. The extra money spent on rebuilding yours will be well worth it in the long run.

I should also state that I currently dont have a job and am looking for the cheapest way to do this.

Since there isnt much income available i would check with the local salvage yard close to where you live. Shipping on a transmission would be crazy high. Just check locally and see what you can find.

The tranny is controlled by the PCM, as is the engine.

Until '93, the PCM was OBD-I.
From '96 on, the PCM is OBD-II.

'94 and '95 GA's are the infamous transition computers, slangly referred to as 'OBD-I.5'.

Even if everything mechanically mates from your '5 to a '96 tranny, I would worry about goofy electronic compatibility between the two.
Specifically, the PCM gets speed data from the tranny, signals the tranny shift points, provides power for firstgear solenoid, and interfaces with the cruise control.
I *think* all '96 PCMs also communicate with the ABS for the Electronic Traction System, by telling the throttle to back-off even if you're flooring it.

Check with a tranny shop to see if there's an electronic or mechanical compatibility issue.
Don't chance it. The most expensive tranny is the one you have to replace twice.

Good luck.
