Does anyone know which type of light bulbs are the best to put on a 99 grand am se?...b/c there are so many out there and some cost a great deal of money. I want one that looks like HIDs but not the cost of them. I want the ones that have a hint of blue and are real good at night. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know the name and where I could get one and the price. Thanks everyone

Silverstar headlight and signal bulbs are pretty good.

Silverstars put out a very white light. You can look for bulbs called Nokya or Fahrenheit (the latter might require an upgraded wire harness). They both give a fairly blueish/purpleish light but are apparently crap for night driving.

Silverstars are very nice, I have them in my 01 GASE, and don't know why, but alot of people like to flash their high beams at me at night :blake: I rarely ever have to use my high beams, you'll be impressed.

you dont find a bulb that looks like HID without actually having HID, theres no such thing.

Just get silverstars or PIAA bulbs, dont be one of those hid posers :nono:

Silverstar are the highest wattage that the wiring can handle. Anything higher and you risk melting wires or the bulb sockets.

They can be found at all the major auto stores like Pepboys, Advance Auto, Auto Zone, etc. Shop around, some of the stores have sales and also offer a $5 per pair rebate. I got a set last spring at Pepboys for $18 and an additional $5 rebate.

The retail price for the headlights is around $40 and the turn signals is $20. The turn signals have a irridescent look to them like oil on water.

Eurodezigns does makes some nice fogs. I have the fogs in my car now. 893 The Lifetime Warranty does really work. Their headlights may be able to pass for silver stars, because there fogs match my S Stars.

The bulbs on ebay claim to be 6000K and DOT approved. There are HID kits that are that bright. If they really were 6000K at 55/65 watts they'd beat Silverstars.

The higher the K (kelvin) does not mean the brighter the light. The only correlation between Kelvin and lumens is typically the lower the K rating the higher the lumens on that kit.

4100k is brighter than 6000k and so fouth. OEM uses 4100k or 4300k i wouldnt go any higher than 5000k or 6000k when buying a kit. Plus when you get into the higher numbers these kits use cheap japan made bulbs that blow out after month or so (ie. mr jung kits, Mcculloch, etc)

Actually, color temperature is measured in Kelvin units (K). Higher K values mean "whiter" light. For example, incandescent light bulbs are around 2800K; a stock halogen bulb has a color temperature of around 3200K; the so-called "performance" bulbs run about 3500K; Xenon bulbs run near 4000K; HID lighting systems run from 4000-5000K and daylight is 5400K . Note that there is a difference between output (lumens) and color, or "whiteness" (Kelvin units).
